Travis Kelce Inspires Next Wave of NFL Tight Ends at Combine

Future NFL tight ends draw inspiration from Travis Kelce, whose legacy shapes the next wave of talent.

INDIANAPOLIS - Thirteen years ago, Travis Kelce was just another hopeful at the NFL Combine, pushing through drills and dreaming big. Fast forward to today, and he's not just a star for the Kansas City Chiefs-he's a beacon for the next wave of NFL tight ends.

Kelce's influence stretches from coast to coast, and it's particularly strong at his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati. There, he's set the bar high for tight ends like Joe Royer, who recently shared his admiration for Kelce during a chat with KSHB 41 Sports’ Matt Foster at the Combine.

"Even before I transferred to Cincinnati, Travis was someone I looked up to," Royer said. "I wanted to carry on what he started."

In 2024, Royer surpassed Kelce's record for the most receptions by a Cincinnati tight end in a single season. Kelce, ever the supportive mentor, congratulated Royer, and the two now share a connection on Instagram.

John Michael Gyllenborg, a Rockhurst alum and former University of Wyoming tight end, spoke about Kelce's far-reaching impact. "Kids from my generation and beyond all look up to Travis," Gyllenborg noted.

USC's Lake McCree highlighted Kelce's exceptional playmaking skills. "His ability to run routes and find open spaces shows his high football IQ," McCree said.

While the future of Kelce's career with the Chiefs remains uncertain, one thing is crystal clear: his impact on aspiring tight ends is undeniable. Kelce has set a standard that many are eager to follow, and his legacy is already inspiring the stars of tomorrow.
