Travis Kelce Gave Chiefs Fans One Reason To Smile After That Loss

Despite a tough loss for the Chiefs, Travis Kelce cements his legacy by breaking tight end receiving records and climbing the all-time receptions list.

The Kansas City Chiefs had little to celebrate in a Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but Travis Kelce still found a way to leave the night with a piece of NFL history.

In a game that ended 20-3 and felt even more one-sided than the final score suggested, Kelce climbed two major all-time leaderboards. He moved up in both regular-season receptions and tight end receiving yards, and in one of those categories he now stands alone at the top.

Kelce is now the NFL’s all-time leader among tight ends in receiving yards when regular season and playoffs are combined. He has 15,423 career receiving yards across those two settings, nudging past Tony Gonzalez, who sits at 15,413. Jason Witten is third all time with 13,532, and no other tight end is within 1,000 yards of either of the top two.

The record includes Kelce’s 13,345 regular-season yards and 2,078 playoff yards.

He also moved higher on the all-time regular-season receptions list. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Kelce’s 1,104 catches pushed him past Marvin Harrison and into fifth place all time. Only Witten, Gonzalez, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jerry Rice sit ahead of him.

If you include the postseason, Kelce’s 178 playoff receptions give him 1,282 total catches, which puts him just ahead of Witten’s 1,273. Gonzalez, Fitzgerald, and Rice remain ahead of him there as well.

So even on a rough day for Kansas City, Kelce added to a resume that keeps getting stronger.

Kenneth Walkers Homecoming Exposed A Chiefs Problem Fans Didnt Expect

Sunday night in Seattle brought a rude reminder of how quickly an offense can get squeezed when the ground game never gets going. The Seahawks beat the Chiefs 20-3 to hand Kansas City its first loss of the season, and Kenneth Walkers return to face his former team never found much traction as the Chiefs kept leaning into a game plan that never opened up.

The bigger concern for Kansas City was the overall shape of the offense. Patrick Mahomes was bottled up for much of the night, and the Chiefs spent long stretches chasing a rhythm they could not quite find against a Seattle defense that controlled the line of scrimmage and turned the game into a slog. Andy Reid Just Made Harrison Butker A Real Chiefs Concern

The Chiefs 20-3 loss to the Seahawks was rough enough on its own, but Harrison Butkers night added another layer of concern for a team that expects its kicking game to be a strength. The veteran was only 1 of 3 on field-goal tries, and the misses loomed large in a game where Kansas City never found enough offense to keep pace on Sunday night.

Andy Reid did not dance around it afterward, making clear Butkers issues have become something the Chiefs need to address. One of the misses came on a 45-yard attempt in the fourth quarter, the kind of kick that could have changed the tone of the finish and kept Kansas City within striking distance, but instead the struggles left the Chiefs with another problem to sort through. Seahawks Added Insult To Chiefs First Loss In Brutal Fashion

Kansas Citys first loss of the season came with an ugly scoreline in Seattle, where the Seahawks controlled the game from start to finish in a 20-3 Week 7 win. Travis Kelce still managed a piece of history in the defeat, setting the record for the most combined regular-season and playoff receiving yards by a tight end, but it did little to soften the blow for a Chiefs team that never found its rhythm offensively.

The sting lingered after the final whistle, when Seattle took a victory lap on social media and aimed its celebration at one of the most visible parts of the Chiefs spotlight. For a fan base already frustrated by the way the afternoon unfolded, the post only added another layer to a loss that felt as sharp off the field as it did on it. [Read more 🡒]
