Tom Brady Weighs In on Patrick Mahomes’ Injury: “He’s Tough. He’ll Be Back.”
When it comes to understanding what Patrick Mahomes is facing right now, few voices carry more weight than Tom Brady’s. The seven-time Super Bowl champion has been through it himself - a torn ACL in his ninth NFL season, just months after a crushing Super Bowl loss. Sound familiar?
Brady, now part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, opened up about Mahomes’ injury during this week’s episode of his Let’s Go! podcast. The timing and circumstances hit close to home for Brady, who suffered his own ACL tear in Week 1 of the 2008 season - coincidentally against the Chiefs.
But Brady’s message wasn’t just reflective - it was confident, and it came from experience.
“I know one thing about Patrick. He’s very tough.
He’s very resilient. He’s going to work extremely hard to get back,” Brady said.
“We wish him the best in his recovery. Hopefully it's fast, and hopefully it's a successful surgery, and he can get back on the mend.”
Mahomes underwent surgery Sunday night, beginning what will be a long and grueling road back. And if anyone knows what that journey looks like, it’s Brady. After his injury, he returned in 2009 to throw for over 4,300 yards and 28 touchdowns - a clear reminder that elite quarterbacks can come back strong from devastating injuries.
Still, Brady didn’t sugarcoat the process. ACL rehab is no walk in the park, especially for a quarterback who relies so heavily on mobility, vision, and timing.
“It’s one of the toughest rehabs,” Brady said. “I just remember every day pushing myself. It’s always the same amount of pain and discomfort, except you’re making progress through that pain and discomfort, which is a hard psychological thing to battle.”
That’s the part fans don’t always see - the mental grind behind the physical recovery. The daily battle to stay motivated through soreness, setbacks, and slow progress. But if there’s a quarterback built for that kind of challenge, it’s Mahomes.
We’ve seen his toughness before - playing through injuries, taking hits, and still pulling off jaw-dropping throws. Now, it’s about channeling that same fire into the recovery room.
Brady’s message was clear: Mahomes has what it takes. And if his own comeback is any indication, the league should expect No. 15 to return with something to prove.
For now, Mahomes begins the long road back. And while the journey won’t be easy, he’s got the support of a fellow legend who’s walked that path - and come out stronger on the other side.
