Taylor Swift spent Sunday in New York City instead of Denver, where Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs dropped a 28-24 game to the Broncos. The timing wasn’t random, at least according to one report: Swift was at a screening and Q&A for Toy Story 5, and the event was tied to a bigger push for an Oscar.
The song at the center of it all is “I Knew It, I Knew You,” the original track Swift wrote and recorded for the film with Jack Antonoff. The song is being viewed as a contender for Best Original Song at the 2027 Academy Awards, with nominations due Jan. 21.
Swift already has 14 Grammys and an Emmy, which she won in 2015 for an interactive media project, but an Oscar has remained out of reach. Her song “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing made the shortlist a few years ago, though it never landed an actual nomination.
Now, according to an insider quoted by the Daily Mail, Swift is treating this campaign like a full-time project.
“Ever since she tied the knot with Travis in July, Taylor has been masterminding how to get an Oscar on her mantle for that song,” an insider told the Daily Mail.
The source said the push intensified in August, when Swift performed the song at the Grammy Museum. Then came the Academy Museum Gala on Oct. 17, where she headlined the event and performed “Blank Space,” “Love Story” and the new song.
“Taylor was not paid to perform, she actually paid her musicians to be there, she paid for her own hair, makeup, styling and transportation,” the source said.
The insider also said Swift used that night to connect with Hollywood names including Charlize Theron and Colman Domingo, along with Elle and Dakota Fanning.
Sunday’s New York appearance was presented as another sign of how focused she is on the award race.
“On Sunday, she will be in New York City for a Q&A about I Knew It, I Knew You, so she is taking this really seriously,” the source said.
Swift did attend the event and spoke about her friendship with her high school best friend, Abigail Anderson. Because she was in New York, she missed Kelce’s road game in Denver, something she rarely does.
“Taylor will be working Oscar season like crazy,” the source said. “Plan to see her everywhere. Taylor will have to really charm the pants off these Oscar voters, which calls for her to be in Los Angeles.”
The insider also said Swift still has work to do, especially with competition from a Diane Warren song performed by Andrea Bocelli and Jennifer Hudson.
“Taylor’s Oscar is not a slam dunk,” the source said.
Even so, the report says an Oscar would only be one step in a larger goal. Swift is said to be aiming for EGOT status, the rare club of people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
“Make no mistake, Taylor is hyper ambitious and she wants to be an EGOT,” the source said. “She is starting with an Oscar win and down the road she will be going for a Tony win.”
Fans have also noticed Swift wearing gold nails for months, which some have taken as a nod to the Oscar statuette. Gold is also one of the Chiefs’ colors, so it could just as easily be a tribute to her husband.

Travis Kelce Takes Blame As Chiefs Sloppiness Starts Raising Concerns
Travis Kelce was back on the field against Denver despite the injury concerns that had followed him into the week, and he still managed to give the Chiefs a steady presence in the passing game with five catches for 67 yards. But the larger story out of the 28-24 loss was the sloppiness that kept showing up at the worst possible moments, a problem that has started to feel bigger than one bad night.
Kelce did not hide from his part in it, acknowledging mistakes and sounding frustrated with how he has played recently. For a Chiefs offense that has too often lived on precision in tight games, the margin for error keeps shrinking, and the latest setback only adds to the pressure to clean things up before the next chance slips away. Chiefs Let A Frustrating Broncos Loss Expose A Bigger Problem
A frustrating afternoon in Denver ended with the Chiefs on the wrong side of a 28-24 loss, and the final sequence only added to the irritation. Patrick Mahomes still put up 321 yards and three touchdowns, but Kansas City could not finish when it mattered most, including a key goal-line chance that came up empty late.
The bigger concern was how the offense let a winnable game slip away after a crucial penalty derailed a fourth-down attempt and the final drive never produced the decisive answer. Even the postgame reaction spilled beyond the field, with Brittany Mahomes taking to social media to criticize the referees call, a sign of how sharply the loss landed around the team. [Read more 🡒]
Chiefs Fans Have Every Reason To Be Furious Over This Flag
The late-game sequence in Denver left Chiefs fans with plenty to argue about, because Kansas City seemed to have the winning touchdown in hand on a fourth-and-goal snap before the flag changed everything. What had looked like the defining play of the night instead turned into a stoppage that flipped the pressure right back onto the offense, and the debate over the call quickly spread beyond the stadium.
The reaction was immediate, with fans and commentators questioning whether the movement on the line really justified the penalty. Former Fox Sports host Skip Bayless weighed in, and even Brittany Mahomes joined the chorus of voices wondering about the decision, underscoring how a single judgment call can dominate the conversation long after the game is over.
