Seahawks GM Schneider Stuns Fans With Bold Move on Kenneth Walker III

Seahawks GM John Schneider stands by his decision to let Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III join the Chiefs, citing confidence in Seattle's running back depth and strategy.

In a surprising move that has the NFL buzzing, Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III is set to leave the Seattle Seahawks for the Kansas City Chiefs. This decision didn't come out of nowhere, as Seahawks GM John Schneider had previously shown little interest in engaging in a bidding war or using the franchise tag to keep Walker in Seattle.

Schneider's strategy was laid bare during a chat on Seattle Sports 710, where he discussed the team's approach to revamping their backfield. The Seahawks have brought in free-agent Emanuel Wilson, who joins a mix that includes George Holani, a former undrafted free agent, Kenny McIntosh, a 2023 seventh-round pick, and Zach Charbonnet, who is currently recovering from an injury.

Schneider's approach to the running back position is clear: "That’s a position where you can find guys," he said, emphasizing the depth and potential in the current roster. He praised Walker's outstanding performance but also expressed excitement about Wilson, describing him as a "heavy runner with really nice feet."

Walker certainly left a mark in Seattle, leading the team last season with 221 carries and 1,027 rushing yards. His Super Bowl performance was nothing short of heroic, with 135 rushing yards and two catches for 26 yards in the Seahawks' victory over the New England Patriots.

Emanuel Wilson, meanwhile, had a solid season with the Green Bay Packers, posting 125 carries, 496 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. As for the rest of Seattle's backfield, McIntosh and Charbonnet are both on the mend from ACL injuries, with Charbonnet likely to miss some action in the upcoming season.

Schneider addressed fans' concerns head-on, acknowledging the unease but expressing confidence in the team's current direction. "Charbonnet is doing great," he reassured, while also lamenting McIntosh's injury. "We know where we’re at right now."

Despite Schneider's optimism, some fans remain skeptical about the offense's future without Walker, who played a pivotal role in securing the Lombardi Trophy just last month. The Seahawks' backfield will certainly have big shoes to fill as they move forward into the next season.
