A Texas judge has cleared Patrick Mahomes Sr. to leave the state for selected Kansas City Chiefs games, but the former MLB pitcher is still operating under strict probation rules after a DUI case that nearly sent him to prison.
Mahomes Sr. had been facing serious trouble after pleading guilty in August 2024 to a felony Driving While Intoxicated charge tied to his third or more DWI arrest in Tyler, Texas. That plea kept him from going to trial and helped him avoid a potential ten-year prison sentence. In the deal that followed, he accepted five years of probation, along with close supervision, 160 hours of community service, a SCRAM alcohol monitoring ankle device and an outpatient substance abuse treatment program.
The case took another turn on January 1, 2026, when the SCRAM monitor recorded a high alcohol reading. The device logged a transdermal alcohol concentration level of 0.045% during the New Year’s Day alert, which led the Smith County District Attorney’s office to seek a full revocation of his probation. Mahomes Sr. was arrested and booked into a Texas jail on February 3 over the alleged violation.
His attorney pushed back hard on the ankle monitor data in court, and later testing undercut the initial alert. Urine tests on January 5 and January 9 were both negative for alcohol.
Mahomes Sr. also passed a polygraph test and a negative hair follicle alcohol screening. After the hair test contradicted the monitor reading, the state dropped its revocation request.
Rather than sending him to state prison, the judge chose a different punishment: Mahomes Sr.’s probation was extended by two more years.
The same court also approved his request to travel out of state so he can watch his son play football. He had asked for permission to attend seven games, and the judge signed off on limited travel for the 2026 season. He was granted permission for games in Kansas City, but the court turned down requests for the road games in Las Vegas and Cincinnati.
The travel permission comes with strings attached. Mahomes Sr. must notify his supervising officer before every trip out of Texas, and he has to take mandatory urinalysis drug and alcohol tests before and after each departure. The court said his completion of community service and outpatient rehabilitation supported the decision to allow the exception.

Maxx Crosby Just Took The Mahomes Rivalry Somewhere Personal
Maxx Crosby has never been shy about the edge that comes with facing Patrick Mahomes, and his latest comments on The Rush add another layer to one of the AFC Wests most familiar feuds. The Raiders pass rusher talked about the in-game back-and-forth with Kansas Citys quarterback, describing the kind of physical, play-to-play friction that has made every meeting feel a little bigger than the box score.
Crosby said Mahomes reacts in ways most fans never hear or see, and he pointed to the way the quarterback has responded after hits as part of their ongoing rivalry. For Kansas City, it is simply the latest reminder that Mahomes remains the standard every opponent circles, while Crosby keeps finding ways to be a problem whenever these teams line up across from each other. Brittany Mahomes Added More Postgame Buzz To Chiefs' Undefeated Start
The Chiefs kept their unbeaten start rolling with a 30-27 win over the Raiders, and the usual postgame chatter came with an extra layer of intrigue. Patrick Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Kenneth Walker powered the ground game with 177 rushing yards and two scores, helping Kansas City move to 4-0 in a tight AFC West race.
Las Vegas had its own reasons to believe after falling to 3-1, even if coach Klint Kubiak said the offense still needs to sharpen up. Patrick Mahomes also made a point of crediting the Raiders' defense afterward, which only added to the buzz around a game that already had plenty of edge, and Brittany Mahomes helped keep the conversation going after the final whistle. Chiefs Suddenly Have A Trade Question Fans Werent Expecting
The trade market around the NFL is already starting to take shape, and one of the more interesting ripple effects for Kansas City comes from Detroits defensive problems. ESPNs Jeremy Fowler pointed to the Lions as a team that may need to upgrade its secondary, a sign that the market for cornerbacks and other defensive help could heat up quickly as the deadline approaches.
Kristian Fulton is one name Fowler floated, with Jalen Ramsey also mentioned as a possibility, and the urgency is obvious given that Detroit has been the leagues worst defense this season. The Lions are allowing 423.8 yards per game, but whether they actually pull the trigger on a deal before the deadline remains unclear, which is exactly the kind of uncertainty that can reshape who is available for teams watching the market closely.
