Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs may be cruising through the 2026 season at 4-0, but the bye week brought some personal news for the quarterback’s family.
Patrick Mahomes Sr., who has been serving seven years of probation after his felony DWI arrest in Texas in 2024, was granted permission to attend games at Arrowhead Stadium, according to ESPN. That said, the court did not approve the full travel request he filed. He had sought permission to attend Chiefs games in Kansas City, Cincinnati and Las Vegas, but the court limited him to home games only.
The documents also said Mahomes Sr. has already completed 160 hours of community service and an outpatient treatment program. Before attending any home games, he will have to take a drug test.
"Patrick Sr. said he understood he would have to submit to urine tests as requested by his probation officer on dates before and after travel on each occasion," per TMZ. "His probation officer told the court that Patrick Sr. had no issues with his SCRAM alcohol monitor device and no issues with drug and alcohol testing."
Kansas City enters its Week 5 bye as the AFC’s only unbeaten team, and the Chiefs are set to return on Oct. 18 against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers.
On the field, Patrick Mahomes has also been a familiar target for Maxx Crosby, who offered a strange detail this week about what it sounds like when the Chiefs quarterback is getting dragged down.
Crosby and Mahomes have met 14 times since the Raiders selected the edge rusher in 2019, with Kansas City going 12-2 in those matchups. Crosby has still made plenty of noise in the series, piling up 46 combined tackles and 27 solo tackles against the Chiefs.
In their most recent meeting, Crosby logged half a sack on Mahomes, though Kansas City still rallied for a 30-27 win. On Tuesday’s episode of "The Rush with Maxx Crosby," the Raiders defender described the sound Mahomes makes while being tackled.
"Ugh," Crosby imitated the sound, "I don't know, that sounds crazy, but there's no other words (but moan) so you can't really (describe it) pause but yeah."
The Chiefs and Raiders meet again in Week 18, with Mahomes and Crosby’s availability depending on where both teams stand in the playoff picture.

Maxx Crosby Just Took The Mahomes Rivalry Somewhere Personal
Maxx Crosby has never been shy about the edge that comes with facing Patrick Mahomes, and his latest comments on The Rush add another layer to one of the AFC Wests most familiar feuds. The Raiders pass rusher talked about the in-game back-and-forth with Kansas Citys quarterback, describing the kind of physical, play-to-play friction that has made every meeting feel a little bigger than the box score.
Crosby said Mahomes reacts in ways most fans never hear or see, and he pointed to the way the quarterback has responded after hits as part of their ongoing rivalry. For Kansas City, it is simply the latest reminder that Mahomes remains the standard every opponent circles, while Crosby keeps finding ways to be a problem whenever these teams line up across from each other. Brittany Mahomes Added More Postgame Buzz To Chiefs' Undefeated Start
The Chiefs kept their unbeaten start rolling with a 30-27 win over the Raiders, and the usual postgame chatter came with an extra layer of intrigue. Patrick Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Kenneth Walker powered the ground game with 177 rushing yards and two scores, helping Kansas City move to 4-0 in a tight AFC West race.
Las Vegas had its own reasons to believe after falling to 3-1, even if coach Klint Kubiak said the offense still needs to sharpen up. Patrick Mahomes also made a point of crediting the Raiders' defense afterward, which only added to the buzz around a game that already had plenty of edge, and Brittany Mahomes helped keep the conversation going after the final whistle. Chiefs Suddenly Have A Trade Question Fans Werent Expecting
The trade market around the NFL is already starting to take shape, and one of the more interesting ripple effects for Kansas City comes from Detroits defensive problems. ESPNs Jeremy Fowler pointed to the Lions as a team that may need to upgrade its secondary, a sign that the market for cornerbacks and other defensive help could heat up quickly as the deadline approaches.
Kristian Fulton is one name Fowler floated, with Jalen Ramsey also mentioned as a possibility, and the urgency is obvious given that Detroit has been the leagues worst defense this season. The Lions are allowing 423.8 yards per game, but whether they actually pull the trigger on a deal before the deadline remains unclear, which is exactly the kind of uncertainty that can reshape who is available for teams watching the market closely.
