The Chiefs made a bold move in the 2026 NFL Draft, jumping from No. 9 to No. 6 to land LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane in the top 10. Kansas City wanted him badly enough to pay up, and after the first few weeks of his rookie season, that gamble is starting to look pretty sharp.
There were reasons for concern along the way. Delane missed time over the summer with a nagging shoulder injury, and his NFL debut in Week 1 did little to quiet the nerves. He lasted just three snaps before another shoulder issue forced him out, but even in that tiny sample, he made his presence felt by intercepting Bo Nix and helping set the Chiefs up with good field position for a touchdown.
Week 2 only sharpened the spotlight on Kansas City’s secondary. Delane suited up, but he never got on the field, and the defense showed the strain without him. Penalties piled up, explosive plays leaked through, and the unit did not look comfortable.
Then came Week 3 in Miami, and Delane finally delivered his first full game. He turned in the kind of performance that makes a front office feel justified for making an aggressive draft move.
Pro Football Focus gave him an 83.2 overall grade, which ranks fifth among cornerbacks in the league. His 85.5 coverage grade sits fourth.
Whether or not you buy into PFF, those numbers jump off the page.
Delane’s strong outing also pushed him to the top of Roto Wire’s Week 3 rookie rankings. He finished ahead of Washington Commanders linebacker Sonny Styles and Miami Dolphins linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, both of whom had excellent third weeks of their own.
For Kansas City, the encouraging part is bigger than one rookie’s grade. The secondary was always going to draw scrutiny after Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson both left for the Rams and Bryan Cook signed with the Bengals. Those were major losses for Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, and there was real reason to wonder how the group would hold up.
So far, Delane has helped answer that question. Through three weeks, he, Kristian Fulton, and Nohl Williams have been the top three corners in man coverage, according to PFF. McDuffie, for what it’s worth, is right behind them in fourth.
It’s early, and there will almost certainly be bumps ahead. Delane is a rookie, and rookie corners do not move through a season without some rough patches. But right now, the Chiefs look like they made the right call when they moved up to get him.

Chiefs Could Catch A Big Break In This Raiders Matchup
The Raiders offensive line is suddenly worth watching as their unbeaten meeting with the Chiefs draws closer, with rookie right guard Jackson Powers-Johnson dealing with a groin injury he picked up in Week 3. Powers-Johnson, a 2024 second-round pick, has been part of a line the Raiders hoped would stabilize things up front, but his status now adds some uncertainty to a matchup that already carries plenty of AFC West weight.
If Powers-Johnson cant go, Caleb Rogers would be in line to step in after being taken in the third round of the 2025 draft. The Raiders also added Tyler Linderbaum as a key offseason piece along the offensive line, so Kansas City will be keeping an eye on whether Las Vegas can hold its front together in a game that matters early in the division race. Andy Reid Brings Extra Edge Into Chiefs Raiders Showdown In Vegas
Andy Reid walked into his press conference ahead of the Chiefs-Raiders matchup in Las Vegas with a little more context than usual, and it fit the moment. He was told he owns the most wins at Allegiant Stadium, a list that includes a Super Bowl victory, and now he gets another high-stakes visit as Kansas City and Las Vegas meet with both teams undefeated at 3-0. Reids history in the building is already lopsided, too, as he carries a 6-1 record at the Raiders home stadium.
For Reid, the setting only adds to a rivalry that already had plenty of juice. He said he is looking forward to the game and acknowledged the Raiders have improved, which makes this week feel a little different than a routine divisional trip. The Chiefs have been here before with Reid, and this time the backdrop is even sharper because a perfect start for both teams leaves little room for anyone to back into control of the AFC West race.
