Patrick Mahomes’ father is back in court, and this time the fight is over the ankle monitor he says has left him with severe pain and visible skin damage.
According to court filings obtained by TMZ, Patrick Mahomes Sr. is asking a Texas judge to let him stop wearing the alcohol monitoring bracelet that remains part of his probation from a 2024 felony DWI case. The documents say the device caused serious skin irritation, and that creams prescribed to treat the problem did not help. The swelling reportedly got so bad that the bracelet could no longer move on his ankle.
Mahomes Sr. first raised the issue with his probation officer, who saw the swollen ankle in person. Officials then moved the bracelet to the other ankle, but the same problems returned quickly.
A doctor’s note described damage caused by the “shackle.” Mahomes Sr. also submitted to voluntary hair-follicle and blood tests on July 1 and July 2, and both came back negative for alcohol.
He is now asking to switch to an in-home portable alcohol monitor, which would let him stay in compliance without the constant irritation. Court records say the probation officer documented the visible swelling, and the earlier probation extension added time after previous concerns. No further violations have been alleged in the latest filing.
Mahomes Sr. has already completed community service, paid fines, and met other requirements tied to the case. He has also appeared in court multiple times since the original conviction, and previously received permission to attend certain family and football events under supervised conditions.
The family’s legal troubles have been part of the public conversation for a while now. Patrick Mahomes has spoken openly about how his father’s arrest in 2024 affected him, saying before the Super Bowl that it hurt him. The current request, though, is focused strictly on the medical problems tied to the monitor.
The judge will review the photos, doctor’s note, and the negative test results before deciding whether the ankle bracelet can be replaced with a portable device.
