Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III didn’t hide his reaction when asked about Jalen Hurts’ medical situation.
Hurts will miss the rest of the 2026 season after doctors found blood clots in his lungs. The Eagles said Monday that he has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, a serious condition that can be life-threatening. Philadelphia expects Hurts to recover fully and does not believe there will be serious long-term effects, but his season is done and his football future is now even less certain.
What shocked Walker most was the sequence of events after the Eagles cleared Hurts to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. Doctors had first found a superficial blood clot in Hurts’ calf, and he ended up playing on Oct. 11 before flying back to Philadelphia with the team. A follow-up then uncovered the more serious diagnosis.
“He went on a flight, huh? And everything? Yeah, that's crazy,” Walker said, while also offering a message of support, telling Hurts to "just stay positive."
Walker knows the condition firsthand. In high school, he dealt with a pulmonary embolism that affected both lungs, so the news hit close to home for him.
The NFL has backed the medical decisions that were made, while the NFL Players Association wants a deeper review of how the situation was handled.
On the field, Walker has been thriving in his first season with the Chiefs. Through five games, he has rushed for 665 yards and six touchdowns on 106 carries, a blistering 6.3 yards per attempt.
He has topped 100 rushing yards in four of Kansas City’s five games and has gone over 170 yards twice. Now he is heading into a revenge game as the Chiefs visit the Seahawks on Sunday night.
Kansas City enters the weekend at 5-0, while Philadelphia has dropped to 2-4 after losing four straight. The Eagles are also dealing with the fallout of losing their franchise quarterback, with questions already swirling about whether the roster could start to change before the NFL trade deadline.

Chiefs Stadium Saga Just Cleared A Major Hurdle In Kansas
Kansas Citys stadium planning on the Kansas side took a meaningful step forward after Gov. Laura Kelly and Wyandotte County Mayor Christal Watson announced a settlement in the long-running dispute over local control. The agreement clears up a legal fight involving the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and the state, giving the project a cleaner path as officials continue to push the plan ahead.
The deal centers on the practical pieces that have to be in place before any stadium project can move forward, including land use and utility services. Kelly and Watson both voiced support for the project and pointed to the economic benefits it could bring, signaling that the political will is still there even as the finer details remain part of the larger stadium conversation. Chiefs Get A Notable Break As Seahawks Backfield Shifts
The Chiefs got a bit of breathing room in their Sunday-night matchup with Seattle, as the Seahawks backfield took a hit heading into Week 7. Zach Charbonnet, recently activated off the PUP list, will not be available for the game in Kansas City, trimming one of the options Seattle had hoped to have back in the mix.
For a Chiefs defense preparing for a physical opponent on the primetime stage, the absence matters because it changes how Seattle can manage its run game and game plan. Charbonnets next chance to return could come in Week 8 against the Bears, leaving his status beyond Sunday as the storyline to watch. [Read more 🡒]
