Kadarius Toney gave Chiefs fans plenty to talk about this week with a simple Instagram story.
The former Kansas City receiver posted a photo from inside a private jet, and sitting in front of him was a Chiefs helmet. That was enough to send X into a spin, with fans immediately turning the image into speculation about whether a reunion could ever happen.
It’s the kind of reaction Toney still gets in Kansas City. Few players have split the fan base the way he did, and his Chiefs run came packed with both unforgettable highs and frustrating stretches.
The biggest moment, of course, came in Super Bowl LVII. Toney’s 65-yard punt return remains the longest in Super Bowl history, and it helped swing the game as the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35.
He also caught a touchdown from Patrick Mahomes in that game. In all, Toney scored four times in 23 games with Kansas City across the regular season and playoffs.
The next season brought more turbulence. Toney played a career-high 13 games, but drops and a late-season injury undercut his year.
Then, as the Chiefs pushed toward a second straight Super Bowl title and third championship in five seasons, Toney was on the outside looking in. A hip injury kept him out of the postseason, and before Kansas City’s 17-10 AFC Championship Game win in Baltimore, he livestreamed on Instagram and appeared to say the Chiefs lied about his injury.
The Chiefs released Toney in August 2024. He landed with the Browns, but that stint barely got off the ground; he appeared in just three games and hasn’t played in an NFL game since. He’s spent time on his rap career, though he said in April 2025 that he wasn’t done playing professional football, per CBS Sports.
That’s why the helmet picture hit a nerve. Some fans laughed it off, some wanted no part of it, and others couldn’t resist revisiting what Toney did in Kansas City.
