The Chiefs were stuck in the mud for a stretch Sunday against the Chargers, and Eric Bieniemy decided the entire offense needed to hear about it.
Over the first 20 minutes of the second half, Kansas City’s offense kept spinning its wheels. The third-quarter opening drive reached the Chargers’ 38-yard line after a 62-yard march, but it ended with no points on downs.
The next possession died almost immediately with a three-and-out. Then, after the Chiefs defense forced a Chargers turnover on downs, Kansas City started at its own 38 and still couldn’t cash in.
An 18-yard completion briefly pushed the Chiefs into Chargers territory, but that was as far as it went. On fourth-and-2 from the LA 35, Andy Reid sent Harrison Butker out for a 52-yard attempt. Butker missed, and with 11:51 left, the Chargers were still hanging around at 19-6.
That was enough for Bieniemy. After three drives produced 97 yards and zero points, the Chiefs offensive coordinator brought the whole unit together on the sideline - not just the starting group, but every offensive player. KSHB-TV reporter Matt Foster shared video of the impromptu session, and Bieniemy looked to be giving the group a blunt message in a major in-game reset.
Whatever was said seemed to do the trick. After the defense forced another turnover, the offense responded with its sharpest sequence of the second half, covering 50 yards and reaching the Chargers’ 13-yard line - Kansas City’s deepest push into LA territory after the break. The Chiefs finished that drive with a 30-yard field goal to stretch the lead to 16.
From there, the game closed out at 22-6.

Chiefs Stayed Unbeaten But This Win Raised A Bigger Question
The Chiefs kept their unbeaten start rolling with a 22-6 win over the Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium, a result that pushed them to 5-0 for just the sixth time in franchise history. It was the kind of division win that usually looks neat in the standings and messy in the film room, which is why the postgame report card leaned so heavily into the details of how Kansas City played on both sides of the ball.
Patrick Mahomes still guided the offense to another victory in a game that will count as a milestone in his career, but the bigger takeaway was on the other side of the ledger, where the defense controlled the night and left the Chargers searching for answers. With Kansas City now unbeaten and the AFC West race already taking shape, the lingering question is whether this was a complete performance or just another win that left more to sort out than the score suggested. Taylor Swift Just Added Another Wild Chiefs Game Day Twist
Taylor Swifts Chiefs game day presence has become part of the weekly theater around Arrowhead, but this one looked unlikely from the start. She had been slated to miss Kansas Citys home game against the Chargers after performing at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles the night before, a scheduling wrinkle that seemed to keep her away from Travis Kelces latest home date in front of the Chiefs crowd.
Instead, Swift made the trip to Kansas City and was there for the game, cheering from a VIP suite as the Chiefs took on Los Angeles. It was another reminder that even when the travel board says one thing, the scene around this team can change fast, and Swifts appearances continue to add a layer of attention to an already familiar Sunday backdrop. Travis Kelce's Injury Leaves Chiefs Fans Watching One Big Concern
Travis Kelces afternoon against the Chargers brought the kind of scare Chiefs fans know all too well: the tight end came up with an ankle issue, spent time on the sideline getting attention and then found his way back into the game. For a Kansas City offense that leans heavily on Kelces presence and timing, any hint of an ankle problem is enough to put the focus on the next snap and how he holds up after it.
Andy Reid later confirmed Kelce played through an ankle injury, but stopped short of saying how serious it might be. Former NFL team doctor David Chao offered a video-based read of a mild right high eversion ankle sprain, which at least suggests the injury may not be as ominous as it first looked. Still, for the Chiefs, the bigger concern is whether this is the kind of issue that lingers once the adrenaline fades and the weeks workload starts to build. [Read more 🡒]
