Eagles Interview Matt Nagy As OC Search Takes An Interesting Turn

The Eagles search for an offensive coordinator takes a notable turn as they consider a familiar face with deep ties to Andy Reid and Philadelphia.

The Eagles’ search for their next offensive coordinator took an intriguing turn today, as they interviewed former Chiefs OC Matt Nagy, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

Nagy, who recently saw his contract with Kansas City expire, is officially on the market and looking for his next opportunity to call plays. He was in the mix for the Titans’ head coaching job but ultimately didn’t land it, leaving him open to explore other options - and Philadelphia could be a compelling fit.

At 47, Nagy brings a deep well of experience, including a head coaching stint in Chicago and multiple roles under Andy Reid - one of the most respected offensive minds in the game. But what makes this potential reunion with the Eagles especially interesting is that Nagy’s NFL coaching journey actually began in Philly. He started as an intern back in 2008, climbed the ranks to offensive quality control coach by 2011, and then followed Reid to Kansas City when the longtime Eagles coach took over the Chiefs.

That move proved pivotal. Nagy became KC’s quarterbacks coach and was later promoted to offensive coordinator.

During the 2017 season, Reid handed over play-calling duties to Nagy - a significant sign of trust - and it wasn’t long before the Bears came calling. Chicago hired him as their head coach in 2018.

Nagy’s time in the Windy City had its ups and downs. He posted a 34-31 record over four seasons, leading the Bears to two playoff appearances. However, the postseason didn’t yield much success, with an 0-2 record in the playoffs eventually leading to his dismissal.

Still, the league didn’t forget what Nagy could do with quarterbacks. He returned to Kansas City in 2022 as a senior assistant and QB coach, helping guide Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense. That trust earned him a promotion to offensive coordinator in 2023, stepping in after Eric Bieniemy’s departure.

Now, with the Eagles still searching after missing out on their top choices for OC, Nagy’s name is firmly in the mix. He’s got familiarity with the organization, a history of success working with high-level quarterbacks, and experience calling plays in both regular and high-pressure situations.

It’s still early in the process, but this is a name worth watching - especially for a Philly team looking to reset its offensive identity.
