The Chiefs have gone back to a familiar name in their search for help on the edge, reaching an agreement with Emmanuel Ogbah on a one-year deal.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the return, and it comes after Kansas City spent much of the offseason looking for veteran pass-rushing help. The team made a serious push for Cam Jordan before the New Orleans Saints star chose to stay with the franchise that drafted him. Since then, the Chiefs kept working the free-agent market while players like Jadeveon Clowney landed elsewhere.
Ogbah always made sense as a reunion candidate. Brett Veach had shown interest in him before, and Kansas City had him for a season in 2019.
The Chiefs were also linked to another run at Ogbah in 2024, but he signed with the Miami Dolphins instead. Kansas City then moved on to a preseason deal with the Arizona Cardinals to bring in Cam Thomas.
Now the reunion is finally happening.
Ogbah’s most recent stop was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025, where his role was limited. He logged seven pressures and a half-sack across 383 defensive snaps.
That production was modest, and the Chiefs shouldn’t expect him to be a headline addition at this stage. But there is still a reason this move matters.
His first stint in Kansas City showed he can still bring something to the table. In 10 games with the Chiefs, including four starts, he posted 5.5 sacks before a torn pectoral muscle ended his season.
The bigger picture is the depth chart, which had started to look awfully thin behind the top names. George Karlaftis remains the anchor on one side, while Ashton Gillotte, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, and rookie R Mason Thomas are all in the mix for reps. After that, the drop-off gets steep, with undrafted players VJ Anthony, Ethan Hurkett, and Anthony Dunn next in line.
There’s also some reason to think the fit could work. Before the ’25 season, Ogbah was still starting full-time for Miami, playing 75% of defensive snaps while finishing with 19 pressures and 5 sacks. A return to Steve Spagnuolo’s defense could help squeeze a little more out of the 32-year-old.
At the very least, the Chiefs added a veteran who knows the building and gives them another body in a competition that had become too thin for comfort.
