The Kansas City Chiefs are staring down the trade deadline with a clear need and a shrinking list of options. Another wide receiver keeps popping up in the conversation, and this time it’s Indianapolis Colts playmaker Josh Downs.
Fox Sports analysts Eric Williams and Ralph Vacchiano both weighed in on some of the top trade candidates ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline, and Williams had Downs headed to Kansas City. Vacchiano saw it differently, projecting Downs to the Pittsburgh Steelers, another team in the market for receiver help. The Colts and Steelers already made a deal in the offseason for Michael Pittman Jr.
Williams made his case plainly: "Kansas City has Travis Kelce to work the middle of the field - and that’s about it. Mahomes could use a sure-handed, twitchy route runner who can get open on got-to-have-it situations and move the chains for the Chiefs," Williams said.
That need is hard to miss. Travis Kelce is currently the team’s top receiving threat, while backup running back Emmett Johnson is sitting in the top three in receiving yards, a sign of how thin the Chiefs are at wideout.
Downs asked for a trade at the end of October, shortly after Indianapolis moved DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has also been showing up in trade talk, so the possibility of a broader sell-off in Indianapolis remains on the table.
If Kansas City were to make a run at Downs, the price could be more manageable than some of the other names floating around. Brian Thomas Jr. has been mentioned as a more expensive alternative, while ESPN’s Ben Solak projected Downs and a fifth-round pick going to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2028 third-round pick.
That gives at least a rough sense of what it might take to land Downs: a pick swap that could fit Kansas City’s situation.
Downs was a third-round pick in 2023 out of North Carolina. This season, he has 30 catches for 330 yards and a touchdown. His best year came in his second NFL season, when he put up 72 receptions for 803 yards and five touchdowns.
For context, Downs’ 330 receiving yards would rank second on the Chiefs, behind only Kelce. It would also put him nearly 100 yards ahead of the next wide receiver, though Rashee Rice has played only five games.
The Chiefs need help at wide receiver, and Downs is now one more name tied to the search.

Chiefs Offensive Struggles Just Put This Jets Matchup In A New Light
The Chiefs early-season cushion has disappeared quickly, and the timing of their next game only sharpens the concern. After opening 5-0, Kansas City has dropped two straight while dealing with familiar issues in penalties and a running game that has not been efficient enough to keep the offense on schedule. Now comes a Week 9 trip to face the Jets, a team sitting at 2-6 and trying to sort out its own direction.
New York was already viewed as a likely seller before the deadline, which has only added intrigue around the roster. Garrett Wilson has come up in trade chatter, though the Jets have said they do not want to move him or Breece Hall. For Kansas City, the matchup is less about the opponents record than the chance to steady an offense that has looked out of sync at a time when the margin for error is shrinking. [Read more 🡒]
Travis Kelce Opens Up About His First Christmas As A Married Man
Travis Kelce is already leaning into the holiday season, and this one carries a little extra meaning. During a promotion for a Tommy Hilfiger campaign, the Chiefs tight end talked about his excitement for celebrating his first Christmas as a married man with Taylor Swift, while also reflecting on some of the traditions that make the holidays feel like home.
Kelce and Swift were married in July 2025 after announcing their engagement in August 2025, so this is the first time the couple gets to navigate the season as husband and wife. There is also a family element to the holiday plans that adds another layer to the moment, which makes this Christmas feel like more than just another date on the calendar for one of the NFL's biggest stars. Chiefs Suddenly Have A Kenneth Walker Problem They Can't Ignore
Kenneth Walker has turned the first half of the season into a weekly reminder of how quickly a running back can force his way into the conversation. Through seven games, he has piled up 770 rushing yards and scored 8 touchdowns, production that has kept him on a pace few backs can sustain and put a historic season within sight if the workload and efficiency hold up.
The problem for Kansas City is that defenses are already adjusting, and the recent attention on Walker has started to squeeze his room to operate. To match Eric Dickersons single-season rushing mark, he would need to keep averaging a gaudy 133.5 yards per game the rest of the way, a number that shows just how narrow the margin is now that opponents are making him the focal point.
