Chiefs Suddenly Have A Trade Question Fans Werent Expecting

In light of defensive struggles, an ESPN analyst encourages the Detroit Lions to explore strategic trade options with the Chiefs and Steelers to bolster their secondary.

The Detroit Lions are 2-2, but the record only tells part of the story. After getting crushed by Carolina, the bigger issue is impossible to ignore: this defense is getting lit up, and one ESPN insider thinks Detroit has reached the point where a trade is no longer optional.

Jeremy Fowler pointed straight at the Lions as a team that needs to act, and his focus was on the secondary.

“The Lions should make a move for a cornerback. They were in on Joey Porter Jr. before Pittsburgh traded him to Dallas.

Detroit's secondary is swimming right now, and though safety Brian Branch is close to a return and safety Kerby Joseph should eventually be back, the Lions don't have enough corner help to run the coverages they want,” Fowler wrote. “This team has elite players on both sides of the ball and must embrace its window of contention, whether it's slipping away or not.”

The numbers back up the concern. Detroit is sitting with the worst defense in the NFL by a huge margin, allowing 423.8 yards per game. That’s 30 yards per game worse than the next team, and the biggest culprit is a secondary that has been badly short on reliable help.

Fowler also floated a couple of names who could step in right away. One is Kansas City corner Kristian Fulton, who has been in and out of the Chiefs’ lineup. Fowler noted that Fulton is due real money, with $5 million of his $9.75 million base salary guaranteed, though he suggested the Chiefs and Lions could split the bill to make something work.

He also mentioned another possible path: calling Pittsburgh about Jalen Ramsey.

“Is it worth calling Pittsburgh for Jalen Ramsey? Not sure he's available, but the Lions' defense seems far from settled.”

Detroit could certainly use help in the back end, but whether the front office makes a move before the trade deadline is still an open question.

Maxx Crosby Just Took The Mahomes Rivalry Somewhere Personal

Maxx Crosby has never been shy about the edge that comes with facing Patrick Mahomes, and his latest comments on The Rush add another layer to one of the AFC Wests most familiar feuds. The Raiders pass rusher talked about the in-game back-and-forth with Kansas Citys quarterback, describing the kind of physical, play-to-play friction that has made every meeting feel a little bigger than the box score.

Crosby said Mahomes reacts in ways most fans never hear or see, and he pointed to the way the quarterback has responded after hits as part of their ongoing rivalry. For Kansas City, it is simply the latest reminder that Mahomes remains the standard every opponent circles, while Crosby keeps finding ways to be a problem whenever these teams line up across from each other. Brittany Mahomes Added More Postgame Buzz To Chiefs' Undefeated Start

The Chiefs kept their unbeaten start rolling with a 30-27 win over the Raiders, and the usual postgame chatter came with an extra layer of intrigue. Patrick Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Kenneth Walker powered the ground game with 177 rushing yards and two scores, helping Kansas City move to 4-0 in a tight AFC West race.

Las Vegas had its own reasons to believe after falling to 3-1, even if coach Klint Kubiak said the offense still needs to sharpen up. Patrick Mahomes also made a point of crediting the Raiders' defense afterward, which only added to the buzz around a game that already had plenty of edge, and Brittany Mahomes helped keep the conversation going after the final whistle. Patrick Mahomes Sr. Just Got A Chiefs Season Ruling

Patrick Mahomes Sr. will be allowed some room to keep up with his sons team this season, even as his legal situation remains under close supervision in Texas. The elder Mahomes pleaded guilty to a felony DWI charge and was sentenced to five years of probation with strict conditions, setting off a case that has kept his travel closely controlled while the court monitors compliance.

The latest wrinkle came after a disputed alcohol reading from his SCRAM ankle monitor on Jan. 1, 2026, but later testing found no alcohol use and the state backed away from trying to revoke probation. A Texas judge then extended his probation by two years while approving limited out-of-state trips so he can attend certain Chiefs games, though those visits will come with strict monitoring rules.
