Chiefs Suddenly Have A New Receiver Option Worth Watching

As the NFL trade deadline nears, the Kansas City Chiefs could make a pivotal move to strengthen their receiving corps by targeting Brandon Aiyuk, potentially transforming their passing game alongside Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs may be circling a different answer at wide receiver as the trade deadline approaches, and Brandon Aiyuk has emerged as the name to watch.

Kansas City’s passing game has hit a rough patch after a strong start to the year, when Kenneth Walker III’s ground production helped create cleaner looks through the air. That balance has faded lately, and Tyquan Thornton’s injury has only made the receiver room look thinner. The Chiefs have also been linked to free agent Tyreek Hill as he works his way back from a major knee injury, but NFL analyst Wajih AlBaroudi says Aiyuk should be the move instead if Kansas City wants a proven target for Patrick Mahomes.

Aiyuk has been making his case to get back on the field. He recently visited the San Francisco 49ers facility with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, after spending about 25 months recovering from a serious knee injury. Aiyuk says he believes the rehab is behind him and that he is ready to return.

“I’m feeling great, feeling healthy,” Aiyuk said. “It was a long recovery process, a long rehab process, but I’m back to 100% and looking to get reinstated to the National Football League.”

The 49ers have already terminated Aiyuk’s contract and removed the remaining $27 million in guarantees after he stopped attending his knee rehabilitation check-ups. San Francisco is still trying to recover $13 million in bonus money it previously paid him. Once that issue is settled, the expectation is that the 49ers will release him.

That’s where Kansas City could enter the picture. If Aiyuk becomes available, the Chiefs would have a chance to add an experienced receiver without surrendering draft picks.

AlBaroudi made the case that Aiyuk fits what Kansas City needs right now. “The Chiefs have needed a receiver with Aiyuk’s ability ever since Tyreek Hill walked out the door, particularly after Tyquan Thornton went down after a promising start this season,” he wrote.

He also pointed to the way defenses have started to clamp down on Kansas City’s offense. “Defenses are beginning to contain Kenneth Walker III with the Kansas City passing offense not exactly keeping them honest, so Aiyuk could remedy that issue.”

There is still another possible route for San Francisco before Tuesday’s deadline. ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported the 49ers could continue to explore a trade, though a release remains the likelier outcome if no partner emerges.

Rosenhaus said his client is ready now.

“Fortunately, he’s feeling good physically. He’s healthy. He’s ready to get back to work,” Rosenhaus said.

For the Chiefs, that leaves one more intriguing name in play as they search for help at receiver.

Chiefs Offensive Struggles Just Put This Jets Matchup In A New Light

The Chiefs early-season cushion has disappeared quickly, and the timing of their next game only sharpens the concern. After opening 5-0, Kansas City has dropped two straight while dealing with familiar issues in penalties and a running game that has not been efficient enough to keep the offense on schedule. Now comes a Week 9 trip to face the Jets, a team sitting at 2-6 and trying to sort out its own direction.

New York was already viewed as a likely seller before the deadline, which has only added intrigue around the roster. Garrett Wilson has come up in trade chatter, though the Jets have said they do not want to move him or Breece Hall. For Kansas City, the matchup is less about the opponents record than the chance to steady an offense that has looked out of sync at a time when the margin for error is shrinking. [Read more 🡒]

Travis Kelce Opens Up About His First Christmas As A Married Man

Travis Kelce is already leaning into the holiday season, and this one carries a little extra meaning. During a promotion for a Tommy Hilfiger campaign, the Chiefs tight end talked about his excitement for celebrating his first Christmas as a married man with Taylor Swift, while also reflecting on some of the traditions that make the holidays feel like home.

Kelce and Swift were married in July 2025 after announcing their engagement in August 2025, so this is the first time the couple gets to navigate the season as husband and wife. There is also a family element to the holiday plans that adds another layer to the moment, which makes this Christmas feel like more than just another date on the calendar for one of the NFL's biggest stars. Chiefs Suddenly Have A Kenneth Walker Problem They Can't Ignore

Kenneth Walker has turned the first half of the season into a weekly reminder of how quickly a running back can force his way into the conversation. Through seven games, he has piled up 770 rushing yards and scored 8 touchdowns, production that has kept him on a pace few backs can sustain and put a historic season within sight if the workload and efficiency hold up.

The problem for Kansas City is that defenses are already adjusting, and the recent attention on Walker has started to squeeze his room to operate. To match Eric Dickersons single-season rushing mark, he would need to keep averaging a gaudy 133.5 yards per game the rest of the way, a number that shows just how narrow the margin is now that opponents are making him the focal point.
