Chiefs May Finally Have The Year 3 Weapon They Needed

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the 2026 NFL season, wide receiver Xavier Worthy's recovery and standout offseason performance signal a potential breakout year.

The Chiefs may be two months from opening the 2026 season, but one name is already standing out in Kansas City’s summer work: Xavier Worthy.

NFL insider Jesse Newell of The Athletic called the wide receiver the team’s “summer practice MVP,” pointing to the way he has looked with Patrick Mahomes during offseason workouts. Newell wrote, “If the Chiefs had a summer practice MVP, it would’ve been Worthy, who flashed consistent chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Worthy also checks many other boxes for a potential breakout player,” and added that “…Worthy played through a torn labrum last season, and coach Andy Reid said the ailment led the team to limit his route tree. Worthy should be back to full strength for Week 1 after offseason surgery.”

That kind of buzz is notable because Worthy’s 2025 season was defined by injuries. He was dealing with multiple issues, including an early setback in the very first game, when a miscommunication with Travis Kelce sent the tight end crashing into him against the Los Angeles Chargers and knocked Worthy out of the game.

Even with those stops and starts, Worthy has always carried the reputation of a player who can stress defenses with speed and athleticism. Now, heading into his third NFL season, the talk is that he’s sharpening the rest of his game too. For a Chiefs team trying to bounce back after missing the playoffs in 2025, that would be a welcome development.

Kansas City opens its 2026 NFL season on September 14 at home against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.

Patrick And Brittany Mahomes Just Sparked Fresh Buzz At Chiefs Wedding

The offseason has a way of turning a simple appearance into a talking point, and Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes found themselves right in the middle of one after attending JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruks wedding at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, California. The gathering had plenty of Chiefs flavor to it, with several current and former Kansas City players in attendance, along with Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, making it the kind of event that naturally drew extra attention beyond the ceremony itself.

Brittany Mahomes later shared photos from the celebration on Instagram, and those images quickly picked up steam on social media. For a team that is used to having even its social moments scrutinized, a high-profile wedding full of familiar faces was always going to travel fast, especially with the Chiefs star quarterback and his wife at the center of it. Chiefs Just Made One Move That Could Reset Their Offense

After a 6-11 season that sent the Chiefs to the offseason earlier than anyone around the franchise expected, the front office wasted little time trying to address the part of the offense that never found its footing. The running game was a glaring issue, and Kansas City answered by bringing in Kenneth Walker III on a three-year contract, a move that gives Patrick Mahomes a different kind of threat in the backfield and signals a clear desire to get the offense back to being more balanced.

The other part of that reset came on the sideline, where Eric Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs' coaching staff with the task of helping fix an attack that fell well short of its usual standard. Kansas City knows what this looked like when Bieniemy was running the offense before, and it also knows how far the unit slipped without that structure in place. The hope now is that the combination of a proven play-caller and a new back can restore some of the rhythm the Chiefs lost a year ago. [Read more 🡒]
