Could Breece Hall Be the Answer to the Chiefs’ Run Game Woes?
For the first time in what feels like forever, the Kansas City Chiefs are watching the playoffs from home. That’s not a sentence anyone expected to write this season, but here we are. And with the postseason out of reach, attention in Kansas City now turns to the offseason - and to fixing one of the most glaring issues on the roster: the run game.
It’s no secret the Chiefs have lacked consistency on the ground. Whether due to injuries, scheme, or personnel, the rushing attack has simply failed to provide the kind of balance this offense needs - especially in a year where the passing game hasn’t been its usual explosive self.
And while Isiah Pacheco has flashed his trademark energy and physicality, injuries and inconsistency have made it tough for him to carry the full load. Kareem Hunt, back in Kansas City, hasn’t exactly reignited the fire either.
So where do the Chiefs turn? One name that continues to surface: Breece Hall.
The Chiefs reportedly made a push for Hall at the trade deadline, but couldn’t strike a deal with the Jets. That doesn’t mean the door is closed. If New York is willing to listen this offseason - and there’s at least a chance they might - Hall could be back on the radar for Kansas City.
And it’s easy to see why. Hall, a second-round pick out of Iowa State in 2022, has been one of the few bright spots on a struggling Jets offense.
He’s racked up 900 yards on the ground, added another 323 through the air, and found the end zone four times this season. That’s despite playing behind a shaky offensive line and in an offense that’s lacked rhythm all year.
Now imagine what Hall could do in Kansas City - in an Andy Reid system, with Patrick Mahomes (eventually) under center, and surrounded by a more functional offensive cast. Hall isn’t just a between-the-tackles runner.
He’s a dynamic playmaker who can catch passes, make defenders miss in space, and turn a routine play into a game-changer. That’s exactly the kind of spark the Chiefs have been missing.
There’s also the long view to consider. With Mahomes expected to miss time in 2026, Kansas City could use a reliable offensive engine to lean on - someone who can keep the chains moving and take pressure off a backup quarterback.
Hall fits that mold. He’s young, versatile, and already proven he can produce even when defenses know he’s the focal point.
Of course, the Jets still hold leverage. They kept Hall through the deadline, signaling they’re not eager to move on.
They could still bring him back in 2026, whether through a new deal or the franchise tag. But if the right offer comes along, it’s not out of the question they’d listen.
For Kansas City, this might be the bold move that finally fixes a broken run game. Hall wouldn’t just be a complementary piece - he could be the foundation of a more balanced, more dangerous offense moving forward.
Don’t be surprised if his name keeps popping up in connection with the Chiefs. And this time, Brett Veach might just get his guy.
