Rashee Rice appears to be in the clear with the NFL after serving a 30-day jail sentence this summer, with league insider Ian Rapoport saying he does not expect any additional discipline for the Chiefs wide receiver.
The jail time came after Rice violated probation by testing positive for THC in May, which led to the immediate 30-day sentence tied to his 2024 high-speed crash case. He was released in mid-June, and Rapoport said the league considers that punishment already handled.
“First of all I’m going to go to the disciplinary part, because for Rashee Rice he was already disciplined essentially for what he was in jail for; that was a probation violation. He had already been disciplined for that infraction, had already missed time for that.
So I don’t expect from my understanding anything new there disciplinary-wise.” Rapoport said.
Rice had already been suspended six games at the start of the 2025 season because of the multi-vehicle crash. He remains on five years of probation from that case, and the domestic allegations from his former partner also did not lead to NFL discipline earlier this year.
Rice has described the jail stint as a learning experience and a reality check. He said he kept working on his knee rehab while incarcerated and that he is focused on the present. He also talked openly about the support he got during that stretch, including from Patrick Mahomes.
“I mean, I had times where I could talk to my trainers. Times where me and Pat (Mahomes), during the summer, were just grinding in the facility, just me and him and the trainers,” he told reporters.
Now, Rice heads into a contract year as Kansas City’s top receiving threat when healthy. Over the past two seasons, he has flashed big-play ability in limited action, and the Chiefs would get a major lift if he can stay on the field. With no new suspension expected, he should be available for the full 2026 campaign.
Kansas City opens the season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.

Chiefs May Have Finally Found Early Order In A Quiet Return Battle
The early shape of the Chiefs return game is starting to come into focus, and Nikko Remigio appears to be the player setting the pace heading into 2026. Special teams coach Dave Toub has singled out Remigio for cleaner ball-catching and better vision during practice, a promising sign for a unit that often turns on reliability as much as burst. Even in a roster with plenty of moving parts, that kind of consistency can go a long way toward earning trust.
Brashard Smith, Tyquan Thornton and rookie Jacob De Jesus are still in the mix, so the competition is not exactly settled, but Remigio is the one sitting atop the unofficial depth chart for now. For Kansas City, that matters because the return job tends to reward the player who can pair sound decision-making with dependable hands, and Remigio has given the coaching staff a reason to keep leaning his way as camp unfolds. Travis Kelce Just Gave Chiefs Fans Two Very Different Reasons To Buzz
Travis Kelces offseason has already offered Chiefs fans plenty to talk about, and he added another layer of intrigue when he confirmed that he married Taylor Swift over the July 4th weekend at Madison Square Garden. He described the wedding as the best night of his life, a personal milestone that naturally drew attention before Kansas City even fully settled into training camp.
Back at camp, Kelce also had football to discuss, and he sounded pleased to see offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy return after a two-week absence. Kelce praised Bieniemys intensity and accountability, framing both as essential traits for a team trying to keep its standard high. For the Chiefs, it was a reminder that even in a summer filled with off-field buzz, the familiar demands of the season are already back front and center. [Read more 🡒]
