With the Chiefs’ 53-man roster set, Kansas City also filled out its practice squad, and Kader Kohou stands out as one of the more notable names in the group.
The Chiefs added several veterans to that unit, including Emmanuel Ogbah, Ethan Driskell, and Kohou. Of that trio, Kohou may be the most intriguing because of what he brings to the back end of the defense and to special teams.
Kohou’s path started at East Texas A&M in Commerce, where he played from 2016 to 2021. He was part of the 2017 team that won the Division II National Championship during his redshirt season.
Over his college career, he finished with 111 total tackles, five interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two defensive touchdowns. He also added 348 return yards as a returner and picked up first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors in 2019 and second-team honors in 2018.
He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2022 and made a quick impression. As a rookie, he appeared in 15 games, started 13, and posted 72 total tackles, including 63 solo stops, along with 10 pass deflections, one interception, and one forced fumble.

Kohou stayed productive in 2023, playing all 17 games and starting 16 while recording 63 total tackles, 52 of them solo, plus 10 pass deflections and one sack. In 2024, he added 45 total tackles, 33 solo tackles, eight pass deflections, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
His 2025 season never got off the ground after he tore his ACL before the preseason and missed the year. When the 2026 offseason arrived, the Dolphins did not re-sign him. Kohou then joined the Chiefs on March 12 before signing with Kansas City’s practice squad on September 1.
If he gets moved up, Kohou gives the Chiefs something useful: a veteran defensive back who can handle nickel or slot duties, bring solid ball skills, and help on special teams. The report on him points to strong concentration and quick hands, traits that help him get to the ball and either break up a pass or force a turnover.
For now, he’s depth and a scout-team body for Kansas City, but he’s also the kind of practice-squad player who could get a call during the season if the need comes.
