The Chiefs come out of their bye week with a spotless 4-0 mark, but Week 6 brings a division opponent that can’t be treated like a formality. Kansas City will host the 0-5 Los Angeles Chargers, and even with the records sitting at opposite ends of the spectrum, this is the kind of matchup the Chiefs need to handle cleanly.
The last time Kansas City took the field, it survived a wild 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders to make it four straight to open the year. Kenneth Walker III was at the center of it again, piling up 177 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
His production has put him right in the thick of the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year conversations. Through four games, he’s averaging 6.2 yards per carry, ranks second in rushing yards with 537, and has also contributed in the passing game with 12 catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Add in his four scores on the ground, and he’s been one of the league’s most dangerous weapons.
Kansas City should still be able to lean on its run game, but the passing attack gets more complicated without Rashee Rice. The receiver was ruled out for today’s game because of a knee injury, leaving the Chiefs to adjust through the air.
That likely means more work for Travis Kelce, the veteran tight end who has long given the Chargers problems. The Patrick Mahomes-to-Kelce connection figures to be featured early and often, at least until Kansas City starts pulling away and doesn’t need to throw as much.
Los Angeles enters this one with major offensive issues. Even after bringing in Mike McDaniel to run the offense, the Chargers have struggled to move the ball in a way few expected. Their offensive line has already taken a beating, and Ladd McConkey has been dealing with lingering injuries all season, adding to the mess.
Justin Herbert’s numbers tell part of the story. He has seven interceptions, which puts him among the league leaders, and he hasn’t looked like the same quarterback from earlier in his career.
Still, the problems aren’t all on him. He’ll have to deal with a Kansas City defense that comes in rested and loves to heat up opposing passers.
Under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs have kept their identity as one of the league’s most aggressive blitzing teams, and that should show up again here. Herbert has thrown all of his interceptions and has been sacked 17 times when facing a blitz, which gives Kansas City a clear path to make life uncomfortable for him all afternoon.

Chiefs Vs Chargers Comes With An Arrowhead Twist Fans Will Notice
Arrowhead Stadium gets its usual early-sunday bustle for the Chiefs matchup with the Chargers, and the game-day setup is built to keep fans moving from the parking lots to their seats without much hassle. The team has laid out the timeline, from gate openings to tailgate plans and in-stadium concessions, while also steering everyone toward mobile tickets and cashless payment options to keep the flow around the stadium as smooth as possible.
Jason Kelce is part of the wrinkle in the pregame scene, with a free New Heights tailgate planned outside Founders Plaza as part of the days entertainment. There is also a special honoree tied to the event, another small Arrowhead touch that gives this rivalry matchup a little extra ceremony before kickoff. [Read more 🡒]
Chiefs Keep Getting Linked To The One Move This Offense Still Needs
The Chiefs have plenty of familiar names in their receiver room, but the conversation around their passing game keeps circling back to the same issue: they still do not have a proven elite downfield playmaker to tilt defenses the way Kansas City has in past seasons. Former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson recently weighed in on that very idea, suggesting the next move for the offense could come outside the building rather than from within it, with a trade for a veteran receiver giving Patrick Mahomes another established weapon.
It is the kind of speculation that fits where the Chiefs are right now. They have enough bodies at wideout to function, but not necessarily the kind of top-end threat that changes how opponents game-plan for them every week. With potential trade targets already being discussed across the league, the question is not whether Kansas City could use another receiver, but how aggressive it will be if the right one becomes available. Kelce Brothers Just Added New Buzz To Chiefs Game Day
Arrowhead Stadium had a little extra buzz before kickoff against the Chargers, with the new Caitlin Clark Nike signature shoe on display outside the venue as part of the game-day scene. The Caitlin 1 has become a notable launch for Nike, and its presence at the Truman Sports Complex fit neatly into a Sunday that already had a New Heights tailgate event and a Jason Kelce meet and greet on tap.
Nike CEO Elliott Hill said the Caitlin 1 rolled out in 5,000 retail stores nationwide, making it the biggest signature shoe launch in company history. For Chiefs fans, the crossover only added to the intrigue around a football weekend that already had a celebrity draw and a little extra off-field energy before Kansas City took on Los Angeles.
