The Chiefs’ decision to bring Justin Tucker onto the practice squad has drawn a sharp response, and Candace Buckner of The Athletic made the point in no uncertain terms.
Buckner’s opinion piece, titled “Stop asking NFL men about forgiveness of alleged criminal acts. They have nothing to say,” took aim at the familiar way teams and coaches are asked to explain these kinds of moves. In her view, those questions are “mortifying,” especially when they’re directed at women.
She zeroed in on Andy Reid’s handling of the issue, reframing the usual line of questioning as asking Reid “why he keeps giving creeps second chances” in the context of Tucker’s signing. Tucker was accused of sexually inappropriate behavior by 16 massage therapists, according to the Baltimore Banner, with the allegations including exposing his genitals and leaving a wet spot on the sheets after ejaculating after treatments.
Tucker was suspended for 10 games, and that punishment appears to have been enough for the NFL, Reid, and the Chiefs to move forward with the signing. Kansas City made the move after Harrison Butker had made only 11 of 16 field goals this season, and Buckner described Tucker as now having a job “in the heartland’s version of a football halfway house.”
Buckner also took a swipe at Reid himself, calling him “Mr. Kool-Aid with a walrus mustache meets fun-loving football genius.”
From there, she pointed to the business side of the situation, saying the suspension and the “business” that came with it presumably includes some mix of an apology and a large amount of cash settlements. She also referenced other similar signings, but made clear the Chiefs were the main focus of her criticism.
Buckner even connected the issue to the financial boost Kansas City has received from Taylor Swift’s presence as a Chiefs fan, tied in large part to her romance and marriage to tight end Travis Kelce.

Chiefs Wide Receiver Search Just Took A More Urgent Turn
The Chiefs search for wide receiver help has become a more pressing storyline as the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaches, with ESPNs Jeremy Fowler reporting that Kansas City is exploring multiple ways to upgrade the position. The team has been evaluating its options carefully, and the market appears to be drawing real attention as the front office weighs what it might take to add another pass-catching threat.
Fowler pointed to Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jaguars and Josh Downs of the Colts as two names on the radar, underscoring how wide the Chiefs may be casting their net. No deal is in place, and the challenge now is less about identifying targets than figuring out which clubs are willing to listen, and at what price. [Read more 🡒]
Ja'Marr Chase Just Reignited A Chiefs Rivalry Fans Haven't Forgotten
The Chiefs-Bengals rivalry had settled into the background a bit after those bruising playoff meetings in 2021 and 2022, with Cincinnati missing the postseason and Kansas City taking the regular-season matchups since then. Even so, the tension never really disappeared, and Ja'Marr Chase just gave it a fresh jolt by revisiting how he feels about the Chiefs during a stretch when the two teams have not been crossing paths in the biggest games.
For Kansas City, it is the kind of reminder that this matchup still carries more edge than a typical AFC game. Chase made clear the dislike is still there, even while acknowledging the Chiefs' quality and how hard these games tend to be when the teams do line up, which is exactly why fans on both sides have not forgotten what happened when the stakes were highest. Chiefs Secondary Suddenly Has A Denver Problem They Cant Ignore
The Chiefs are heading into an AFC West matchup with a thinner secondary than they would like, and the timing could not be much tougher with Denver on deck. Kansas City has already had to adjust its defensive plans around injuries in the back end, and the groups depth is suddenly going to be tested in a game that usually demands clean coverage and communication.
Mansoor Delane will not be available after being ruled out with a shoulder injury, while L'Jarius Sneed is also out of the picture as he goes on injured reserve because of a knee issue. Those absences leave Kansas City with some real questions to answer on the perimeter, and how the Chiefs sort through them against the Broncos will be one of the more important subplots of the week.
