The Kansas City Chiefs have been diligently working to bolster their wide receiver corps through recent NFL Drafts, aiming to provide Patrick Mahomes with the targets he needs. However, none of these picks have quite hit the jackpot yet. As we approach the 2026 NFL Draft, it might be time for the Chiefs to dip back into the talent pool.
ESPN's Matt Miller has laid out an intriguing scenario in his latest mock draft. He envisions the Chiefs snagging WR Germie Bernard from Alabama with the 41st pick in the second round. Given Alabama's storied history of producing top-tier wide receivers, this could be a strategic move.
Miller notes, "With Rashee Rice's future uncertain due to off-field issues and Xavier Worthy yet to establish himself as a WR1, Bernard could step in as a solid WR3. He’s poised to fill the void left by Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, with the potential to evolve into a key player in the slot. His knack for yards-after-catch and ability to play multiple roles, even as a tailback, should fit perfectly with Andy Reid's creative playbook."
Bernard's journey through college football has been quite the adventure. Starting at Michigan State, he then moved to the University of Washington before finding his groove at Alabama over the last two seasons.
In 2024, Bernard recorded 50 receptions for 794 yards and two touchdowns, adding four carries for 37 yards and another score. He stepped up his game in 2025, tallying 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns, alongside 18 runs for 101 yards and two more touchdowns.
The Chiefs could certainly benefit from Bernard's dynamic skill set. Mahomes would likely welcome this addition with open arms.
