Chiefs Coach Matt Nagy Linked to Titans Job Amid Ongoing Search

With coaching changes looming in Tennessee, a familiar offensive mind from Kansas City has emerged as a top contender for the Titans' next head coach.

Matt Nagy Emerging as a Serious Contender for Titans’ Head Coaching Job

As the Tennessee Titans dive into a critical offseason, one name is gaining traction in their head coaching search: Matt Nagy. The current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator is being viewed internally as a serious candidate for the job, according to reports from league insiders. The Titans’ search is being led by general manager Mike Borgonzi and president Chad Brinker, and the list of potential hires is beginning to take shape.

Nagy, who will be in Nashville this Sunday with the Chiefs for their Week 15 matchup against the Titans, won’t be able to discuss any job opportunities during the visit due to NFL rules. But make no mistake - his name is very much in the mix.

This isn’t Nagy’s first time in the head coaching conversation. He’s got a deep résumé that blends offensive innovation with leadership experience.

His coaching career began in 2008 as an intern with the Philadelphia Eagles under Andy Reid. When Reid made the move to Kansas City in 2013, Nagy followed, eventually rising to offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017.

In 2018, Nagy took over as head coach of the Chicago Bears. His first season in Chicago was a breakout - a 12-4 record, an NFC North title, and NFL Coach of the Year honors. While the years that followed didn’t match that initial success, Nagy’s offensive mind and ability to lead a locker room remained evident.

After his Chicago tenure ended in 2021, Nagy returned to Kansas City in 2022 as a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach. By 2023, he was back in the OC role, helping guide the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in LVII and LVIII. His familiarity with high-level quarterback play and big-game pressure is a major selling point for a team like Tennessee, which is in the early stages of a rebuild and looking for a coach who can shape a young roster.

But Nagy isn’t the only name on Tennessee’s radar. The Titans are also casting a wide net on the defensive side of the ball.

Among the coordinators expected to be contacted are Lou Anarumo (Bengals), Jeff Hafley (Packers), Anthony Campanile (Dolphins), Chris Shula (Rams), Matt Burke (Texans), and Jesse Minter (Michigan). It’s clear the organization is keeping all options open - offensive minds, defensive leaders, and everything in between.

This coaching search comes at a pivotal time for both franchises. Kansas City, sitting at 6-8, has had a rocky season by their standards.

Injuries have piled up, and the offense has struggled to find rhythm. Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear, had been productive prior to the injury, but efficiency issues plagued the unit all year.

Meanwhile, Tennessee is 2-12 and fully focused on development. With a young roster and a top draft pick likely on the horizon, the Titans are looking for a leader who can build a foundation - someone who’s been in the trenches and knows what it takes to create a winning culture.

Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and Titans might not have playoff implications, but it carries extra weight behind the scenes. Nagy will be on the opposite sideline, but his name is clearly on the minds of the Titans’ brass. Whether he becomes the next head coach in Nashville remains to be seen, but his track record - from Reid’s coaching tree to Super Bowl success - makes him a candidate worth watching closely.
