Chiefs Bye Week Could Bring Familiar Help At A Troubling Spot

Could Justin Watson be the answer the Chiefs need to bolster their receiving corps, amidst injuries and bye week reassessments?

The Chiefs’ wide receiver situation is getting thinner by the week, and Kansas City is now being linked to a familiar name who could help steady the room.

Tyquan Thornton’s ankle injury is expected to end his season, and Rashee Rice is dealing with an injury as well. Even before those setbacks, the Chiefs were already tied to possible wide receiver trade and free-agent options. Now the need for help looks a lot more pressing.

According to Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star, Kansas City is showing interest in former Super Bowl champion Justin Watson - not Tyreek Hill.

“The Chiefs are among several teams interested in WR Justin Watson, per source,” Sweeney reported Friday, October 9.

With the Chiefs on their bye week, they have time to sort through how they want to address the problem. Hill has been a name attached to them often this season, but Watson would bring a different kind of fit: a steadier veteran presence rather than a headline-grabbing splash.

Watson has won three Super Bowls, taking one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Chiefs and two with Kansas City. The 30-year-old receiver has been in the league for eight years and spent 2025 with the Houston Texans, where he caught three passes for 30 yards on four targets across three games.

His best regular season came in 2023 with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, when he hauled in 27 of 53 targets for 460 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs. In the playoffs, Watson has nine catches for 120 yards, and every one of those numbers came during Kansas City’s two championship runs.

He may not be the loudest possible answer for the Chiefs’ receiver room, but Watson is the kind of under-the-radar addition that could matter on a depth chart that needs help.

Chiefs Fans Are Split Over How Kenneth Walkers Viral Highlight Was Shared

Kenneth Walkers latest burst has already become the kind of play Chiefs fans replay in their heads, the sort of run that shows up in conversation long after the snap itself. One recent highlight, a 21-yard gain against the Raiders, fit the larger story of his season, with Walker continuing to make defenders miss and giving Kansas City another weapon that can change the feel of a drive in a hurry.

What turned the moment into a broader debate was not the run itself, but how it was packaged online afterward. An AI-generated image attached to the highlight quickly drew scrutiny for details that did not match the real game, and the reaction underscored a familiar tension around sports media now: fans want vivid visuals, but they also want accuracy, especially when a big play is being turned into shareable content. Mike Ditka Once Gave Andy Reid A Warning Chiefs Fans Remember

Mike Ditkas death at 86 brought back plenty of reminders of how much the NFL personality shaped the game, from his championship run with the Bears to his later years around the league as a larger-than-life voice. For Chiefs fans, though, one of the more memorable Ditka moments involved Andy Reid, whose place among the leagues most respected coaches only added weight to anything Ditka had to say about him. Ditkas career was full of sharp opinions and bold moves, including his well-known draft-day trade for Ricky Williams and his comments over the years about Reid and Donovan McNabb.

The exchange that stuck with Kansas City fans came during a run of league recognition tied to Reid, the sort of moment that could have stayed lighthearted and gone unnoticed. Instead, it turned into one of those old NFL anecdotes people still repeat because it says as much about Ditkas blunt style as it does about Reids standing in the game. The story also pulled in Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt, and the way the conversation unfolded left enough of a mark that it is still part of the Reid-Ditka lore after all these years. [Read more 🡒]
