The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0, and Travis Kelce has already given them a signature moment this season.
Kansas City pulled out a 23-20 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, and Kelce was right in the middle of it with nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. It was his first score of the season, and it came with Taylor Swift watching from a box at Arrowhead Stadium, just as she had for the Chiefs’ “Monday Night Football” win over the Denver Broncos.
That touchdown celebration took on a life of its own almost immediately. Swift reacted by raising her hand and pointing to the ring on her finger, sending a message that left no room for guessing: “That’s my husband!”
The internet did what the internet does, and the moment turned into meme fuel. On the “New Heights” podcast, Jason Kelce brought it up directly, saying, “So the internet is also running wild with Taylor's celebration. Let's take a look at this,” before the brothers watched a batch of online jokes built around the scene.
Both Kelces cracked up as they went through the memes, and Travis leaned into the attention. “Internet's having a good old time with this [expletive],” he said, later adding, “Listen, man.
Proud wife, baby. Gotta make my girl proud.”
The touchdown itself was Kelce’s 83rd career score, and he made sure to give Patrick Mahomes his due afterward. Kelce called Mahomes a “Texas gunslinger” after the win and said he was “letting it rip” with his throws to everyone.
“A few of them caught me off guard. I gotta get my [expletive] head around, but man, he's putting the ball where it needs to be and he's getting that ball out on time,” Kelce said.
He was just as direct when talking about the touchdown play. “Pat put it right on the [expletive] money. Pat was ball-out on time,” he said, describing the dive over the goal line that finished the scoring play.
Through two games, Kelce has 12 receptions for 172 yards and a touchdown. Mahomes, back from the brutal injury he suffered near the end of last season, has 565 yards and five touchdown passes in his healthy return.
Running back Kenneth Walker III has also been a major offseason addition, and the Chiefs are already getting talked about as AFC contenders with a path back to the Super Bowl. After the disappointment of their 2025 campaign, the early signs point to a very different feel around Kansas City.
