Chiefs Add Former First Round CB In Surprise Move

Chiefs Strengthen Secondary by Adding Former First-Rounder Kaiir Elam to Fill Key Gaps

The Kansas City Chiefs are shaking things up in their secondary, and it’s clear they're gearing up for a new look this season. Their latest move?

Bringing in cornerback Kaiir Elam, a former first-round pick, to bolster their ranks. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Elam has inked a deal with the Chiefs, adding some intrigue to their defensive backfield.

Elam's journey has been quite the ride. After starting his career with the Bills, he spent last season bouncing between the Cowboys and the Titans.

During his stint with Dallas, he made a notable impact, starting in seven of the 10 games he played before being waived. The Titans picked him up, and he added four more games to his resume.

With 43 games and 19 starts under his belt, Elam brings experience and potential to Kansas City. His stats include eight passes defensed and two interceptions, showcasing his ability to make plays on the ball.

The big question now is what role he'll carve out with the Chiefs. Given the current state of their cornerback room, there’s a chance he could step into a starting position.

The offseason is far from over, and with the draft still to come, the Chiefs have plenty of opportunities to add depth to their secondary. They’ve already made some significant changes, trading Trent McDuffie to the Rams for a haul of draft picks and also losing Jaylen Watson to Los Angeles.

These moves set the stage for Elam to potentially become a key piece in a reimagined Chiefs defense. As the offseason unfolds, keep an eye on how Kansas City continues to reshape its roster.
