The Chiefs are getting an early breather.
Kansas City rolled into its Week 5 bye at 4-0, and the first month of the season couldn’t have gone much better. The Chiefs already own two wins over AFC West opponents, but the schedule is about to get a lot less forgiving once the break ends.
That’s the catch with this start: the soft spot doesn’t last forever. Later in the season, Kansas City still has trips to face the Seahawks, Bills, Rams, Broncos and Bengals, plus home games against the 49ers and Patriots. For now, though, the Chiefs can step away while the rest of the league keeps moving.
The next time Kansas City takes the field will be Sunday, Oct. 18, when the Chargers come to Arrowhead Stadium. Los Angeles might arrive with even more pressure on it, since the Chargers are 0-4 and looking for their first win against the Broncos in Week 5.
Because the bye comes this early, the Chiefs will have to finish the season with 13 straight games. That’s a long runway without a reset, and it sets up a demanding stretch for Andy Reid’s team.
Here’s the next five-game run on Kansas City’s schedule:
Sun, Oct. 18 vs. Chargers - 4:25 p.m.
ET
Sun, Oct. 25 at Seahawks - 8:20 p.m.
ET
Sun, Nov. 1 at Broncos - 4:25 p.m.
ET
Sun, Nov. 8 vs.
Jets - 1 p.m. ET
Sun, Nov. 15 at Falcons - 1 p.m. ET
After hosting the Chargers, the Chiefs head right back on the road for games in Seattle and Denver.

Randi Mahomes Just Gave Chiefs Fans A New Game Day Twist
Randi Mahomes has found a new way to tap into Chiefs Kingdom, this time by putting her own spin on game day style. Patrick Mahomes mother has been previewing a clothing collection tied to Kansas City in collaboration with Gameday Couture, using Instagram to share sneak peeks and promotion while tying the project back to her familys own game day experience.
The rollout has already drawn attention from fans who follow the Mahomes family beyond the field, especially after Randi recently marked Patrick Mahomes 31st birthday with a heartfelt tribute online. For Chiefs supporters, it adds another layer to the familys public presence around the team, with more of the collection still set to come into view soon. [Read more 🡒]
Chiefs Stadium Push Just Hit A New Fight In Kansas
The Chiefs stadium push has run into another layer of resistance, this time in the courts. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas has filed suit against the state of Kansas, challenging the constitutionality of the Kansas Sports Facility Authority Act in a dispute that could shape how much control local officials keep over the proposed project.
At the center of the case is a fight over home-rule authority and who gets to decide the key details around the stadium site. The lawsuit argues the law would shift power away from local government on issues like taxation, zoning, fees and utility service, and it seeks injunctive relief to preserve those powers while Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and Secretary of Commerce David Toland are named as defendants. Chiefs Unbeaten Start Suddenly Feels Bigger Than Just A Hot Streak
The early-season rhythm in Kansas City has started to look less like a nice bounce-back and more like the kind of start that can change the temperature around a team. After missing the playoffs a year ago, the Chiefs have reopened the conversation about where they stand in the AFC, helped by Patrick Mahomes returning to the huddle, the arrival of running back Kenneth Walker III and the steady blending of several new defensive pieces from the draft.
An early bye week gives the Chiefs a useful pause, especially for a team still working through some issues while trying to protect bodies and keep the momentum intact. And with Minnesota also unbeaten and riding the NFLs longest active winning streak, Kansas Citys hot start suddenly sits in a broader league picture, one that makes the next stretch feel a little more revealing than a typical September run.
