Harrison Butker just put his name in the unofficial kickers’ club with one of the biggest bombs ever seen in an NFL game.
The Chiefs kicker drilled a 69-yard field goal against the Buccaneers in Saturday’s preseason matchup, a kick that won’t count in the official record book but still lands among the longest made in league history. If it had happened in the regular season, it would have been a record-breaker.
The official benchmark still belongs to Cam Little, who hit a 68-yarder for the Jaguars in Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season. Little had already shown what was coming when he connected from 70 yards in the 2025 preseason, though that kick also stayed outside the official records. He later added a 67-yarder that same season, giving him the top two spots on the all-time regular-season list.
Before Little’s run, Justin Tucker owned the standard with a 66-yard make in 2021.
The current official top five is packed with leg strength. Little’s 68 and 67 sit at the top, followed by Tucker’s 66, then Brandon Aubrey and Chase McLaughlin at 65. Matt Prater and Aubrey are next at 64, with a crowded group at 63 that includes Brett Maher, Joey Slye, Sebastian Janikowski, Graham Gano, Jason Elam, Tom Dempsey, David Akers, Evan McPherson and Aubrey again.
Preseason kicks don’t count for official NFL records, but they still tell their own story. Little’s 70-yarder in 2025 stands as the longest known field goal ever made in an NFL game, and Butker’s Saturday blast moved him into second place on the preseason list. He passed Brandon Aubrey’s 66-yarder from 2024, with Ola Kimrin’s 65-yarder from 2002 also on the list.
Butker is 31 and turns 32 on July 14, 2027. He’s been with the Chiefs since 2017, when they signed him off the Panthers practice squad. Since then, he’s become one of the defining pieces of the team’s run over the past decade.
His résumé backs up the reputation. Butker currently ranks fourth all-time in NFL field-goal percentage, and his career numbers show just how steady he’s been: 251 makes on 284 attempts for 88.4 percent, along with 369 extra points made on 393 tries for 93.9 percent.
