After six straight days of training camp work, the Chiefs got a day off following Saturday’s session. Andy Reid didn’t exactly spend it lounging around.
The head coach stayed in St. Joseph and took in the Goats’ Arena League Championship win, watching them roll past the Arkansas Diamonds 52-30 on Saturday night. It was one of two indoor football title games on the same day, with Nashville also claiming the Arena Football One championship against Albany on a goal-line stand.
Former Bucs and Raiders coach Jon Gruden posted the Nashville clip on social media.
The Goats had the game in hand behind receiver D’ionte “Boo” Smith, who hauled in two touchdown catches, according to KQ2 in St. Joseph. Smith, a former Raytown High School and Mizzou standout, later talked about what the title meant to the city.
“It means a lot because once you realize how much it means to the city, it makes you wanna win it even more. Somebody never had nothing and you start giving them something and they appreciate it, it makes you wanna keep doing (it),” Smith told KQ2.
“We just keep trying to bring them wins and just bring so much culture and fun to the city. We’re gonna keep doing it.
It means so much to us.”
Smith also had a Chiefs connection beyond his college days. After playing at Mizzou, he got a tryout with Kansas City, and he caught up with Reid on Saturday.
And Reid made sure to enjoy one of his favorite game-day foods while he was there: a cheeseburger. He’s brought up cheeseburgers plenty of times with the media over the years, including in June when asked about left tackle Josh Simmons’ slimmer build. Reid’s line then was: “You don’t want cheeseburger weight.”
Chiefs players once even gave Reid a cheeseburger as a Christmas gift.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also has a link to the Goats. He and his brother, Jason, own Garage Beer, and the company invested in the team last year.

With the preseason opener approaching, the Chiefs are already dealing with an uncomfortable early test at wide receiver. The position was supposed to be anchored by Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, but the group has been slowed by injuries, leaving Kansas City to sort through a thin mix of options and unproven depth while it waits for the offense to come together.
The outside market has not offered much relief, either. Kansas City reportedly missed on Stefon Diggs, who ended up with the Washington Commanders, and the remaining veteran choices are limited enough that any move would still feel speculative rather than definitive. Isiah Pachecos latest injury is a reminder of a concern the Chiefs have had to monitor for a while.
