The Jaguars may not be waiting long to give Trevor Lawrence another live tune-up.
After returning from New Orleans and hitting the field for training camp practice No. 14 on Aug. 17 at the Miller Electric Center, coach Liam Coen said he was “trending” toward playing some starters in the Aug. 21 preseason game against the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Stadium. That includes Lawrence, who could get a few drives as Jacksonville looks for more padded work before the game.
“I think that's the goal right now is to look at potentially playing him a little Friday night,” Coen said. “You just look at the amount of padded days that we actually have left until the game week, and it's very few and far between. So you set a schedule, you set it, and you're like, well, timing and circumstances, things change.
“And when you have to pivot a little bit, and I think we need a little bit more work in terms of coming off of the Saints joint [practice] and the Saints game. I think we just need a little bit more padded work against each other, good on good.
Can't really do it today. We had to pivot a little bit.
So like to maybe see these guys Friday night go out there, get a couple drives potentially.”
The biggest personnel note from practice was the absence of Nick Mullens. He was the only one of Jacksonville’s four quarterbacks to miss a camp session, after a rough showing against New Orleans in which he left with the Jaguars trailing 20-6 and finished 3 of 7 for 33 yards.
Mullens came out late in practice during an 11-on-11 period, standing on the sideline in a baseball cap and shorts with a play sheet in hand. Coen said Mullens was “dinged” in the preseason game against the Saints and will not practice on Aug.
- The coach added that Mullens might get some work in the joint practice against Carolina on Aug.
“Maybe Wednesday if he's feeling better,” Coen said. “But yeah, more precautionary.
Just trying to let it slow down, let it chill out and give these other guys some reps too. We got to get Carter and Joey some more reps and when Nick's able to go, we'll get him back out there.”
Elsewhere on the injury front, Walker Little was back in pads and took part in individual offensive line work, though he did not go in team periods. Jourdan Lewis and Cole Van Lanen worked on the side, while Quintin Morris and Trebor Pena wore orange “no contact” jerseys but still practiced. Jack Kiser stayed off to the side with a knee injury.
A few other names never showed on the field. Geron Christian Sr., Patrick Mekari and Jalen McLeod were all absent, and Christian’s situation could simply have been a veteran’s day off.
He was the only Jaguar to play every offensive snap - 61 - against the Saints, and he’s an eight-year player. Chuma Edoga, who was hurt against New Orleans, also did not practice.
Coen said he’s optimistic Edoga can return before the season begins. With Edoga out, Ezra Cleveland handled all of Jacksonville’s 11-on-11 snaps at right tackle.
There was also a brief injury scare during practice when LeQuint Allen Jr. was attended to by trainers after a running back drill. He appeared to be dealing with cramps or an abdomen issue, didn’t take part in team periods, but was later seen running in place vigorously.
On the field, the defense had the sharper day.
Jakobi Meyers hauled in a fingertip catch from Lawrence in traffic over the middle with Eric Murray as the primary defender, but that was one of the offense’s few clean moments. Montaric Brown stood out in a 7-on-7 red-zone period, breaking up a Lawrence pass for Brian Thomas Jr. and then making two tackles, on Parker Washington and Thomas, to keep both out of the end zone.
Dennis Gardeck also jumped a Bhayshul Tuten bobble and took the ball the other way untouched after the pass ended up in his hands. The play may have already been dead on a sack before Lawrence got the throw off.
Travon Walker added another disruptive snap, blowing up a screen to Chris Rodriguez by running through Meyers, who was trying to block him. Walker outweighs Meyers by 72 pounds.
The defense added several more pass breakups, with Devon Marshall, Travis Hunter and Ventrell Miller joining Brown and Gardeck in making plays on the ball. Preston Hodge also got a breakup, though he let another interception slip away.
The offense, meanwhile, had one of its rougher days in the drop department, and the quarterbacks weren’t sharp enough to cover it up. Tuten dropped a pass before the Gardeck interception, while Parker Washington, Morris and Hunter also had drops.
Lawrence took every snap in 11-on-11 work and finished 6 of 18, including just one completion on his first seven attempts. Carter Bradley and Joey Aguilar combined to go 4 of 7 in 7-on-7 periods.
The Jaguars are back on the field Aug. 18 before the joint practice with Carolina on Aug. 19. Then comes preseason game No. 2 against the Panthers on Aug. 21 at EverBank Stadium.

Washingtons left tackle situation changed quickly after Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps that will require surgery and is expected to keep him out for a significant portion of the 2026 season. Dan Quinn has already pointed to Brandon Coleman as the starter on the blind side, and for now the Commanders are saying they do not plan to go outside the building for help. Still, with the depth chart at a premium spot suddenly looking thinner, any team with a capable tackle is going to draw attention.
Thats where Jacksonville naturally enters the conversation, at least in a speculative sense, because Walker Little is the kind of name that can surface when another club is searching for stability up front. For the Jaguars, the wrinkle is obvious: there have been no public trade talks, and Little is currently hurt, which makes any move more complicated than the rumor mill might suggest. The Jaguars roster battles got a little more complicated this week after the team delivered a fresh round of injury updates before its joint practice with the Panthers. Parker Washington is dealing with an undisclosed issue, Wyatt Milum will sit out the rest of the week, and LeQuint Allen is out for the remainder of training camp with a soft tissue injury, while Patrick Mekari has already gone through back surgery and still has an uncertain timetable for any injured reserve move.

Jaguars May Be Leaning One Way With Travis Hunter After All
Travis Hunter has spent Jaguars training camp doing the rare double-duty act the team signed up for, working both cornerback and wide receiver while Jacksonville sorts out how best to use one of its most unique rookies. In recent practices, though, the emphasis has tilted more heavily toward defense, a sign the Jaguars are trying to make sure Hunter is ready for a meaningful role on that side of the ball without taking him out of the offensive mix.
Head coach Liam Coen has made it clear the increased cornerback workload is no accident, part of a deliberate plan to get Hunter more comfortable with the mental side of the position as well as the physical demands.
