Travis Hunter is heading into his second NFL season looking like a different player.
A side-by-side look at his Year 1 and Year 2 Jaguars headshots has been making the rounds, and the change is obvious: Hunter looks bigger, fuller, and far more built entering training camp. The image sparked plenty of reaction, with the accompanying caption putting it simply: “Travis Hunter has been in the gym.”
That added muscle didn’t happen under normal circumstances. Hunter’s rookie year ended in October after he tore his LCL in practice, cutting short an encouraging debut on offense.
Before the injury, he had 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown. With running off the table for months, he turned to the weight room to keep moving forward during rehab.
“It wasn’t a focus,” he explained. “It was me going in there and getting my overall body right and getting in shape. Because I couldn’t run, so weight room was my best friend.”
He also said fans would need to wait until he got back on the field to see the payoff.
The Jaguars have already seen enough to notice the difference up close. Head coach Liam Coen praised Hunter’s upper body and joked that he looks like he’s been spending every morning in the weight room. Trevor Lawrence also shared a photo with several Jaguars teammates, including Hunter, during offseason training, and the added size was clear.
The timing matters because Jacksonville is also reshaping Hunter’s role for 2026. According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Jaguars plan to use him as a starting cornerback this season while still mixing him in part-time at wide receiver, a change from the split workload he carried as a rookie. That transition was already showing up during minicamp, when Hunter wore the defense’s white jersey for all three practice days.
General manager James Gladstone said earlier this year that Hunter’s rehab has stayed on track, and the extra strength appears to fit into the team’s plan for a bigger defensive load. Yahoo Sports reported that Hunter is on pace to be fully cleared in time for training camp, which sets up a second season that already feels very different from his first.
Between the new frame and the expanded defensive role, Hunter is set to be one of the most closely watched players in Jacksonville once the 2026 season begins.
