The first day of Jacksonville Jaguars training camp already offered a clear look at three jobs worth tracking over the next month, and none of them look settled yet.
Running back may be the closest thing to a lead story right now. Bhayshul Tuten appears to have a strong hold on the RB1 spot after opening camp with a standout showing.
John Shipley of Jaguars on SI called Tuten "the most impressive offensive player" on Day 1 of training camp. Chris Rodriguez is back on the field after missing offseason work with a foot injury, but he is still being eased in and only took part in individual drills on Wednesday.
That left Tuten to handle most of the first-team work again.
Linebacker is shaping up as a real fight, too. The expectation all offseason was that Ventrell Miller would slide into the starting role after Devin Lloyd's departure, and that remains a possibility.
But Miller is going to have to win it. Second-year linebacker Branson Combs has been pressing him for those snaps, with Shipley describing it as a "true battle."
The right guard spot is also up for grabs. Patrick Mekari is back for his second year in Jacksonville, but he is not locked into the starting job.
Wyatt Milum, now in his second season, started challenging Mekari for reps during OTAs and minicamp, and that carried into camp opening day. Gus Logue of Big Cat Country said Milum would spend "a significant amount of time playing with the first-team offense."
There is still plenty of time before any decisions are made, but this is one of the spots that should stay under the microscope as camp continues.
