A small but meaningful shift is showing up in Jaguars training camp: LeQuint Allen is getting more work as a pass catcher.
That was the takeaway from John Shipley of Jaguars on SI, who pointed out that Allen has been more involved in the passing game than he was at this point last year. Shipley wrote, "He has gotten more looks in the passing game in training camp this year than he did at this time a year ago," and added, "Just how much more of a passing game load he gets remains to be seen, but it does seem like the uptick is about to be very real."
The move lines up with what Liam Coen said earlier this offseason, when the Jaguars head coach made it clear he wanted Allen to get more chances as a receiver. So far, that plan appears to be taking shape in camp.
As a rookie, Allen was already on the field plenty in passing situations, but his main job was blocking, and he handled that role well. The receiving side of his game, though, was a real weapon at Syracuse.
In his final college season in 2024, Allen drew 78 targets, which was tied for the most among all running backs. He also finished fourth in yards, according to PFF.
That kind of versatility mattered when Coen was the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay, where the running back’s ability to threaten defenses as a pass catcher was a key piece of the offense. Even when the ball doesn’t go his way, Allen can still force defenses to keep him in the picture.
The Jaguars do have plenty of options in the passing game, so Shipley noted that Allen’s exact target share is still unclear. But the trend is obvious enough: more chances are coming, and his presence alone gives defenses another problem to solve.

The Jaguars are still sorting out their running back picture, and Bhayshul Tuten has already carved out a path to the roster conversation even before the depth chart is settled. The rookies value goes beyond the offense, with Jacksonville also viewing him as a kickoff returner, which gives him a chance to help in a different phase while the team weighs how he stacks up against Chris Rodriguez Jr.
Liam Coen has been clear that Tuten brings appealing traits to the table, and there is at least some belief he can grow into a bigger offensive job as the season goes on.
