Now, with a new head coach in place and Josh Allen still very much in his prime, the focus is shifting to the field - and more specifically, to a wide receiver room that underwhelmed in 2025.
Let’s be clear: Buffalo’s wideout group was one of the least productive in the league last season. For a team built around a franchise quarterback like Allen, that’s a problem. And it’s one the Bills know they need to fix if they want to take the next step in a loaded AFC.
That brings us to a proposed trade that’s starting to generate some buzz. The idea? Send wide receiver Keon Coleman and a 2026 first-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Brian Thomas Jr. and a 2026 fifth-rounder.
On paper, it’s the kind of move that could immediately reshape Buffalo’s offensive identity. Thomas Jr. would slide in as Allen’s go-to target - a true WR1 - at a time when the Bills desperately need one. And given the team is reportedly $10 million over the projected salary cap heading into the offseason, adding a high-upside receiver on a rookie deal makes a lot of financial sense.
Of course, this trade idea also highlights the complicated situation surrounding Keon Coleman. The former second-round pick out of Florida State came into the league with high expectations, but his time in Buffalo has been anything but smooth. His relationship with the coaching staff has been rocky, and after ownership made some less-than-flattering public comments about him, it’s hard to imagine a long-term future for Coleman in Western New York.
That’s not to say Coleman can’t still develop into a productive receiver - just maybe not in Buffalo. A change of scenery could be the fresh start he needs, and Jacksonville might be a good fit. Meanwhile, Thomas Jr. brings size, speed, and big-play potential - the kind of traits that could open things up for Allen and give the Bills a much-needed jolt on offense.
It’s also worth noting the recent playoff history between these two teams. Buffalo knocked off Jacksonville in the postseason, but now they could be trade partners looking to help each other out as they gear up for another run in 2026.
For the Bills, it all comes down to maximizing the window they have with Allen. He’s in his prime, and the front office knows it. If they believe Thomas Jr. can be the dynamic weapon that elevates this offense, then moving on from Coleman and a first-round pick might be a price they’re willing to pay.
The offseason is just getting started, but one thing’s already clear: Buffalo is on a mission to give Josh Allen the support he needs - and they’re not afraid to make bold moves to get there.
