Jonathan Taylor Just Put Jaguars Colts Week Into A Different Light

With trade talks heating up, the Indianapolis Colts must make a crucial decision about the future of star running back Jonathan Taylor as they balance risks before facing the Jaguars.

The Colts are staring at one of the biggest decisions of their week, and Jonathan Taylor is right at the center of it.

With Sunday’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars looming, Indianapolis has to decide whether its star running back takes the field or stays on the sideline while trade talks continue to build. The concern is obvious: if Taylor plays, there’s always the chance of an injury that could dent his value. If he doesn’t, the Colts avoid that risk while they sort through a situation that could send one of their top players elsewhere.

The timing only makes it more tense. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the latest on Taylor Saturday morning as the Colts were preparing to fly to Jacksonville, and the question hanging over the team is still the same one: will he suit up Sunday?

This comes during a chaotic stretch for Indianapolis, which has already moved major names such as DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson to the NFC West. Taylor could be next, and wide receiver Josh Downs is also showing up in trade chatter as the Colts continue to add draft picks.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said the market around Taylor is real, and he passed along what teams around the league are saying about his value. “Teams I’ve talked to believe he’s worth a second-round pick and more.

If you can get a package of, say, a second and a third-rounder, let’s say, this is a team that’s trying to replenish their draft capital. It could come to a head,” Fowler said.

He also pointed to the uncertainty around whether Taylor will actually play against Jacksonville. “The question now becomes: does he play on Sunday?

Because he’s been part of the game plan. When I checked last night [Friday] with coaches there, they were expecting Taylor to play, but sometimes, does he?”

Fowler added.

The Colts could end up taking a page from the Arizona Cardinals, who recently held Marvin Harrison Jr. out while a possible trade to the Houston Texans developed. But Indianapolis has not reached any agreement involving Taylor yet, even with multiple teams reportedly interested.

That interest matters, because more than one buyer could push the talks forward. For now, though, the Colts still have to make their call before heading to Jacksonville. And until they do, Taylor’s availability is the story hanging over Sunday’s game.

Jaguars May Have Found A Rookie Starter Fans Can't Ignore

The Jaguars have gotten an immediate return from Emmanuel Pregnon, and that is not something every rookie lineman can say this deep into a season. A third-round pick out of Oregon, Pregnon has stepped straight into the left guard job and started all six games, handling 382 offensive snaps while keeping the pocket clean enough to avoid surrendering a sack.

Sports Illustrateds Justin Melo recently ranked Pregnon as the top third-round rookie, a nod to how quickly he has settled in and how steady he has looked for Jacksonville. There have been some pressures and penalties along the way, but the overall picture is of a player who arrived with first-team All-American credentials and has already made himself hard to take off the field. Jaguars Trade Deadline Search Just Got More Complicated Up Front

The Jaguars search for help up front at the trade deadline just got a little trickier with Washington defensive tackle Daron Payne reportedly suffering a serious foot injury in practice and expected to land on injured reserve. Payne had been one of the more intriguing names for teams looking to fortify the interior of their defensive line, and his availability would have mattered for a Jacksonville club still sorting through its options as the deadline approaches.

With Payne now off the board, the market for defensive tackles only gets thinner, which leaves the Jaguars weighing a handful of other speculative possibilities. Moro Ojomo, Vita Vea, DaVon Hamilton, Zach Sieler and Roy Lopez have all come up as names to watch, but there is no clear answer yet on which direction Jacksonville might take, or whether it can find the kind of interior upgrade it is clearly exploring. Trevor Lawrence Has A Huge AFC South Chance Against Indianapolis

Trevor Lawrence heads into the matchup with Indianapolis with a familiar kind of opportunity, one that has often come with the Colts on the other sideline. The numbers around this game point to a defense that does not lean heavily on the blitz, which matters because Lawrence has generally been at his best when he can diagnose coverage and work from the pocket without constant chaos around him.

For Jacksonville, that makes this more than just another division game. The Colts have been able to generate pressure in other ways, and Jaguars coach Liam Coen has already talked about the defensive chess match that comes with it, but the bigger question is whether Lawrence can keep the offense on schedule and continue the kind of success he has had in this matchup before. If he does, the Jaguars can strengthen their hold in the AFC South in a hurry. [Read more 🡒]
