The Jacksonville Jaguars have been keeping things pretty low-key during this year's free agency period. Their only move so far has been adding depth with running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. But don't be surprised if they shake things up before the season kicks off, as there are definitely some gaps to fill.
Zachary Perales of CBS Sports has thrown out an intriguing suggestion: bringing back a familiar face, Calais Campbell. Campbell, a standout during his time with the Jaguars from 2017 to 2019, was a key part of the formidable "Sacksonville" defense. He made the Pro Bowl each year he played in Jacksonville and is considered one of the franchise's top defenders.
Perales pointed out that while the Jaguars have Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker anchoring their pass rush, they still need more firepower up front. Bringing Campbell back could provide that crucial interior push. With the team having lost some key players in free agency and no first-round pick in their pocket, the Jaguars need to get creative.
Despite nearing 40, Campbell remains a force on the field. Last season with the Arizona Cardinals, he played all 17 games, racking up 43 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and nine tackles for loss. His performance earned him a solid 72.2 grade from Pro Football Focus, placing him 26th among 134 qualified defensive linemen.
Campbell's career boasts six Pro Bowl selections and 117 sacks, and while he might not be at his peak anymore, his return would undoubtedly energize the Jacksonville fanbase. As the Jaguars aim to be contenders in 2026, having Campbell back for another playoff push would be a thrilling prospect for both the team and its fans.
