BJ Green has turned into one of the more interesting names in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive end room, and he’s already got Josh Hines-Allen leaning in.
The second-year defender’s edge shows up every day, according to Hines-Allen, who said Green keeps the competition level high in the building and on the practice field.
"I'll wake up and I walk into the building and he'll be the first thing, 'I'm going to be better than you today,' Hines-Allen said after Thursday's practice. "And I love that.
After every practice, every play, 'Josh, you see that? You see that?
I beat you right here, I got you right here, you probably got me right here.' So it's a lot of competition flying around with me and him."
Green’s path to this point started after the 2025 NFL draft, when he signed with Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent. He made the team’s initial 53-man roster and spent much of the early season in a special-teams role.
That workload was heavy. Green played in 14 games and logged 198 special teams snaps, spread across four of the six different phases.
As the year went on, though, his role on defense grew. From Weeks 12-18, he was on the field for at least 13 snaps in six of the final seven games, and he made that stretch count with seven pressures, two sacks and seven total tackles.
Now Green is part of a tight competition for rotational snaps behind Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. Danny Striggow, Wesley Williams and Zach Durfee are all in that mix, too.
Hines-Allen said Green has handled it the right way.
"He's a true professional," Hines-Allen added. "He's working on the things that he needs to work on and he's taken heed to it and they're all progressing."
