Jaguars Suddenly Have A Huge Question Up Front

The Jaguars face a critical challenge as they shuffle their offensive line following Anton Harrison's injury, testing depth and adaptability under Coach Coen's guidance.

The Jaguars are moving on without Anton Harrison for the rest of the season, and Liam Coen made it clear Monday that the loss stings.

Harrison, Jacksonville’s left tackle, suffered an ACL injury against Philadelphia and was reported last week to be done for the year. Coen confirmed that timeline in his media session and praised what Harrison had brought to the group before the injury.

"Bummer for Anton and our team. I've been very proud of Anton and he will be sorely missed," Coen said.

"I really felt like Anton had been playing really good football. Really all in with the group, his buy-in, his attention to detail, the way he had been playing, I was very proud of Anton the way he was playing for us.

We'll miss him, without a doubt."

Harrison’s path to the left side was a notable one. He had spent his first three seasons with the Jaguars at right tackle, then shifted to left tackle during training camp while Cole Van Lanen was sidelined. Even after Van Lanen returned, Jacksonville kept Harrison on the left.

The results this season showed a player holding his own, at least by the numbers. Through four games, Harrison ranked 32nd among tackles in PFF’s pass-blocking grade and 23rd in run-blocking grade.

Now the job shifts to Walker Little, and Coen sounded encouraged by what he saw from him against Houston’s pass rush.

"(I) was extremely proud of Walker Little and the way that he played on Sunday against Houston," Coen added. "Stepped up in both the run and the pass.

Did some really good things for us and no flinch, no blink, next man up mentality. So excited about him and his opportunity.

There's not many guys that care more than Walker in a lot of ways about this team and about this group of guys. Still feel like we have good depth at the group and the offensive line in general."

There is still one more piece to monitor up front. Offensive lineman Patrick Mekari remains on injured reserve, and Coen would not say when his return-to-practice window might open.

Falcons Suddenly Have A Trade Rumor Fans Can't Ignore

Brian Thomas Jr. has quickly become one of the more intriguing names to watch around the Jaguars, even though Jacksonville is not actively shopping the 2024 first-round pick. His absence from the second half of a recent game was enough to set off plenty of speculation, and it has only sharpened outside interest in what the team might do if the right offer came along.

From the Jaguars perspective, this is less about a confirmed move than about a player whose value is obvious enough to draw attention from around the league. The Chiefs, 49ers and Falcons are all viewed as teams that could use help at wide receiver, which is why Thomas name is floating into so many conversations. For now, though, the bigger question is whether Jacksonville would ever be tempted to turn that buzz into something real. [Read more 🡒]

Jaguars Mock Draft Points To Roster Needs Fans Can Already See

At 4-2, the Jaguars have put themselves in the kind of position where the present matters far more than the draft calendar, but the latest look at a Pro Football Focus simulator still points to the same broad truth: there are roster needs this team can already see. Coming off a recent loss, Jacksonvilles attention naturally stays on the next game, yet mock-draft chatter keeps circling back to the idea that future upgrades could come from the college ranks if the Jaguars stay in the market for talent at key spots.

The projections floated a handful of names, including Benefield, Lubin, Becker and Luckie, each with a different scouting profile attached to him. None of it amounts to a decision, of course, and that is part of the appeal for fans tracking these exercises - they offer a rough outline of what kinds of players might fit if Jacksonville keeps building around the current core, even if the actual draft road still sits well off in the distance. Jaguars Keep Paying For A Frustration Liam Coen Wants Fixed

Liam Coen has spent enough time around this Jaguars team to know the frustration is not just about one bad call or one ugly sequence. Jacksonvilles season has been shaped in part by penalties and officiating mistakes that have left the coaches talking about the same problem over and over: the need to play cleaner, more disciplined football and take control of games instead of letting outside factors tilt them.

Jourdan Lewis sounded the same note from the defensive side, saying the answer is to adapt to how games are being called and stay locked in on fundamentals. For a team trying to steady itself, that becomes more than a talking point. It is part of the identity Coen is trying to build, and it is the kind of detail that can determine whether the Jaguars keep paying for their frustration or finally start putting it behind them.
