The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without a key piece in the secondary on Sunday, and that changes the look of their Week 5 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Before the London game, Jacksonville released its full inactive list, and the biggest name on it is safety Eric Murray. The Jaguars are also down wide receiver CJ Williams, cornerbacks Alijah Huzzie and Jaylon Jones, defensive lineman Daniel Faalele, defensive end Wesley Williams, and defensive tackle Albert Regis.
Jones and Huzzie were both added this week as extra depth in the defensive backfield. Faalele and Wesley Williams have been inactive every week this season, while CJ Williams has been a healthy scratch since Week 1. Regis is also a healthy scratch this week.
To help cover the back end, the Jaguars are carrying extra defensive backs in practice squad cornerback Jabbar Muhammad and practice squad safety Kaevon Merriweather. Linebacker Jalen McLeod is active as well and is expected to contribute on special teams.
Murray’s absence is the one that matters most. Since signing with Jacksonville last March, he has been a steady starter at safety, and now the Jaguars will need someone new lined up next to fourth-year safety Antonio Johnson. Second-year defensive back Rayuan Lane and third-year rookie Jalen Huskey are the options to fill that spot, though the team has not yet said which one will get the nod.
“Eric means a lot to us. Eric is one of the guys you would kind of put him in a classification of he's a coach on the field," Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said this week.
"You guys probably know that from being at practice. He's just really good communicator, knows the ins and outs of the defense and can kind of see problems before they start on the field.
He's been great that way all the way through, the entire season last season, the beginning of this season. He's been a big part of our success."
The Jaguars are also missing Caleb Ransaw, which leaves them without two of their top-3 safeties. That puts even more pressure on the next man up in a game Jacksonville needs to handle cleanly if it wants to move to 4-1.
Campanile said the group behind Murray is ready for the moment.
“Other guys, if they have to step up and do that, I have total confidence that they will, because we've really got a good bunch of communicators back there," Campanile said. "And that's one of the things we're always looking for at that position.
A guy who has position flexibility, one. And then two, smart guys, guys that love to play, that love to learn and obviously, know the ins and outs of all the calls, learn football.”

Eagles Loss Sparked A TV Moment Fans Are Still Arguing Over
The Jaguars walk-off win over the Eagles in London gave Jacksonville a showcase moment overseas, but one of the most talked-about parts of the game came after the final whistle. As the ESPN broadcast lingered on a young Eagles fan in tears during the closing seconds, the shot quickly spread across social media and turned into its own postgame debate, with some viewers taking issue with the camera work and others saying it was simply part of live sports coverage.
For Jacksonville fans, the game itself was the point, a dramatic finish capped by a field goal and a rare international win to celebrate. But the reaction to the broadcast has kept the aftermath in view, and ESPN has not commented on the incident, leaving the argument to play out online as the memory of the ending continues to hang around the game. Jaguars Suddenly Face A Trevor Lawrence Problem They Can't Ignore
Anton Harrisons exit in Week 5 quickly became one of the most important developments of the Jaguars day, because the left tackles injury carries obvious ripple effects for an offense built around Trevor Lawrence. Harrison was carted off the field and did not return, leaving Jacksonville waiting on MRI results while Liam Coen addressed both the uncertainty around the tackle and the way the team will handle the position if it has to move forward without him.
The Jaguars do have options if Harrison is sidelined, with Walker Little, Wyatt Milum, Daniel Faalele and Patrick Mekari all mentioned as possible depth answers at offensive tackle. Even so, this is the kind of injury that can test how much protection Lawrence really has up front, and it puts a premium on how quickly Jacksonville can settle the left side while the diagnosis plays out. Jaguars Snap Counts Hint At One Offensive Shift Fans Need To See
The Jaguars Week 5 snap counts offered a clearer look at how the offense is adapting to injuries, and the most notable change came in the backfield. Bhayshul Tuten logged a career-high workload and handled the most carries, a sign hes starting to settle in as the lead running back, while Chris Rodriguez Jr. saw his role shrink as the game plan leaned harder into Tutens burst and volume.
There were encouraging developments elsewhere, too, as rookie skill players Josh Cameron and Nate Boerkircher were both more involved and made the most of it in receiving yards and snaps. For an offense trying to piece together production on the fly, those growing roles matter, and they raise the obvious question of whether this usage is a short-term fix or the start of a more permanent shift.
