The Jaguars used a seventh-round pick on Zach Durfee in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the early buzz around the rookie defensive end has already started to build. He’ll wear No. 58 in Jacksonville, and while the path to the final roster is steep, he’s at least given himself a real shot before camp even opens.
Durfee arrives after finishing his college career at Washington with a breakout 2025 season. He piled up 53 tackles, including 24 solo stops, along with 35 quarterback pressures, 8.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble.
The numbers helped him stand out in a crowded edge-rushing class, and PFF had him 11th in pass rush win rate among defensive ends. ESPN also tagged him as their 2026 Prospect X.
Now comes the harder part: turning college production into a roster spot. Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker are still the anchors of the Jaguars’ defensive end group, which leaves Durfee fighting for whatever snaps are left. He’ll be in the mix with Danny Striggow, BJ Green, Wesley Williams and Bryan Thomas, Jr., all of whom are chasing the same opportunity.
That competition matters because roster math can get tight fast. Last season, Jacksonville carried six defensive ends, though some teams keep only five.
Durfee does have one thing working in his favor: the strong early praise he’s already received from defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. But praise only gets you so far.
To stick, Durfee has to carry that momentum into training camp and make it impossible to ignore him.
