Jaguars Pulled Off A London Finish Fans Will Want To Relive

A late-game strategic error by Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni led to an unexpected defeat against the Jaguars in a penalty-laden showdown in London.

The Eagles walked into London and left with a loss they handed right to the Jaguars.

Philadelphia grabbed a late lead with Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal and had eight seconds to try to finish the job. Instead, the kickoff turned into the opening Jacksonville needed. Ameer Abdullah brought it back 53 yards to the Eagles’ 39, and with one second left, Cam Little drilled a 57-yarder for a 19-17 Jaguars win in the second home.

It was the kind of finish that turns a tight game into a coaching nightmare. On the NFL Network broadcast, Dave Pasch, Jason Kelce and Kurt Warner pointed out the obvious move: the Eagles should have kicked the ball out of bounds.

With no timeouts, Jacksonville would have been forced into a much tougher path to get into range. By putting the ball in play, Philadelphia gave the Jaguars the runway they needed.

Nick Sirianni didn’t hide from it afterward. He made it clear the blame was his.

The finish will get the headlines, but the Eagles spent too much of the day fighting themselves. They entered the game averaging 18.8 points per game, had scored 24 in each of their first two games, and in their last three losses have managed 7, 20 and 17. Against Jacksonville, they were mostly punting, even with touchdowns on both of their second-quarter possessions.

The numbers tell the rest of the story. Philadelphia finished with only 13 first downs and 232 total yards, and with the backfield down to its third running back, the Eagles managed just 22 rushing yards.

In a game full of mistakes and 20 penalties, the final kickoff was the one that stuck. Something is going to have to change in Philadelphia.

Jaguars Fans Had One Big Problem With Jason Kelce In London

Jason Kelces turn in the broadcast booth for the Eagles-Jaguars game in London came with the usual curiosity that follows a recently retired player calling a game involving his old team. For Jaguars fans, the bigger question was whether he could stay evenhanded while analyzing a Philadelphia matchup overseas, especially after some viewers and media critics raised concerns about how he handled his previous references to the Eagles.

Kelce did make room to highlight Jacksonvilles side, including a nod to emergency long snapper DaVon Hamilton for handling an unusual role during the game. He also acknowledged on his podcast how hard it can be to sound neutral when the former team is the one on the field, while saying he would try to be fair to the Jaguars. [Read more 🡒]

Jaguars Got The Break They Needed On One Eagles Decision

The Jaguars got a timely assist in their win over Philadelphia, and it came from an Eagles decision that proved costly in the games final stretch. Late in the loss, Jake Elliott was instructed to kick the ball in-bounds instead of sending it for a touchback, a choice that opened the door for Ameer Abdullah to bring the kickoff back 53 yards and put Jacksonville in position for the winning field goal.

Nick Sirianni later owned the call, taking full responsibility and apologizing to his team for a move he said cost them the game. From Jacksonvilles side, it was the kind of break that can decide a tight matchup, especially when field position suddenly flips and a single possession becomes the difference between a win and a letdown. Jaguars Fans Had One Big Problem With Jason Kelce In London

Jason Kelces first major stop in the broadcast booth at the Eagles-Jaguars game in London drew plenty of attention, and not all of it was complimentary. A lot of the reaction centered on whether the former Eagles center was keeping enough distance from the team he spent his entire playing career with, even as he settled into his new role on the call.

For Jaguars fans, one of the more notable moments came when Kelce praised emergency long snapper DaVon Hamilton during the telecast, a rare spotlight for a player who ended up in an unusual spot for Jacksonville. Kelce has already acknowledged how hard it is to stay neutral when the game involves his former team, and he said he would try to be fair moving forward, which leaves the broader question of how he balances those loyalties as his broadcast career develops.
