Leanna Lenee made her feelings clear after the Jaguars’ first loss of the season, taking aim at Liam Coen for not tapping into Travis Hunter’s full two-way value.
Jacksonville fell 20-13 to the Denver Broncos in Week 2 on Sunday, and Hunter again spent most of the afternoon at cornerback. Lenee shared a post on her Instagram story from an X user that said, “What's the point of having a two-way player and you're not using him.”
Hunter did see a little more work on offense than he did in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, but the usage was still limited. He played seven offensive snaps against Denver and was not targeted in the passing game. On the other side of the ball, his defensive workload increased to 37 snaps at cornerback.
The game turned on a costly sequence involving Hunter in the fourth quarter. With the score tied 13-13, he was flagged for a 22-yard pass interference penalty while matched up with Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton. Denver then had the ball at the three-yard line and punched it in on the next play to move ahead 20-13.
Coen was visibly frustrated after the penalty and picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct flag of his own. Afterward, he brushed off a deeper reaction to the call.
“I’m not going to comment on (the Hunter call). I thought he played it decent” Coen said.
“I just said one thing and got flagged. It is what it is.”
Hunter said he appreciated Coen stepping in on his behalf, even while acknowledging he has more work to do at the position.
"Yeah, it means a lot,” Hunter said. “You’ve seen the same thing that I’ve seen.
So I was just happy. But we don’t need that penalty, either - we don’t need to attack on (anything).
But, yeah, I was happy to see him be able to have my back.”
Coen has said he’s open to giving Hunter more opportunities on offense, but through two games this season, the former Heisman Trophy winner has mostly been used in a defensive role.
