Jaguars Finally Get Their First Real Look At Travis Hunter

After missing an entire season, Travis Hunter makes a strong comeback to the Jaguars' practice field, ready to take on a dual role with renewed speed and agility.

Travis Hunter is back on the field for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the early focus is simple: shake off the rust, get comfortable, and keep handling work on both sides of the ball.

“It’s been great to be back,” Hunter said after Friday’s practice.

Hunter’s return comes after a knee injury ended his season following just seven games. Before the injury, he was starting to look like he was ready to break out at wide receiver, including a 100-yard performance against the LA Rams. He also missed the on-field portions of OTAs and minicamp while continuing to rehab.

Now that training camp is underway, Hunter said the time away gave him a different kind of benefit.

“It was a learning process,” Hunter said. “I was able to get into the playbook for the second year on both sides of the ball.

Learn it, understand it. Just not my job but everyone else's job so I can get comfortable and just go out there and play fast when I touch the grass.”

A lot of that work came without actually being on the grass. Hunter spent plenty of time in the Jaguars’ virtual room, taking mental reps at both wide receiver and cornerback.

“It’s perfect for me,” Hunter said.

He also added muscle in the weight room, putting on 10 pounds. Hunter said the extra size initially made him nervous, but it ended up helping him feel better once he got back to work.

“I put on 10 pounds (of muscle),” said Hunter. “I was a small guy coming in.

Everybody is like gain weight, gain weight. Coach is like, play at whatever weight you happy at.

Just coming in and putting on those pounds, I was scared at first. I'm like, 'aw dang, I ain't ever played at this weight, I'm going to feel heavy and not be able to do what I do,' but training and being able to put those months not, on the grass but in the weight room just putting in that work it made me feel lighter on my feet when I finally touched the grass.

So just happy to be at this weight and will continue to play at this weight.”

Hunter has also already shown top-end speed, having been recorded at 22.6 mph, a mark very few players have hit in an NFL game. His next target is 23 mph.

On the field, Hunter is expected to have a major role at cornerback while still seeing snaps on offense. Through two practices, he has played 24 total snaps in 11-on-11 periods, with 16 on defense and eight on offense, according to Michael DiRocco.

“I definitely do feel free,” said Hunter. “They let me go out there and do my thing. They give me coaching points and let me know if my technique falling off or if I need to up my technique, so I definitely feel free.”

For now, Hunter says the biggest task is getting back into rhythm after the long layoff.

“Just get the rust off right now,” said Hunter. “Just continue to click with the quarterbacks and click with the defense.”

BJ Green Is Bringing The Edge Jaguars Fans Want To See

BJ Green has already shown he is not afraid to make his presence felt in Jaguars camp, and that starts with the kind of edge he brings every day. The defensive end recently asked offensive coordinator Liam Coen what it would take to get pulled from practice for being disruptive, a question that says plenty about how Green sees his role as he tries to carve out a place in Jacksonvilles defensive front. He is working behind starters Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, but the early impression is that he is determined to force the issue.

Coen and teammates have pointed to Greens competitiveness and the strides he has made, especially against the run, as he pushes for rotational snaps. For a Jaguars defense looking to build depth and toughness up front, that kind of mindset matters. Green still has work to do before anything is settled, but he is giving the coaching staff a player who is not just participating in camp, he is trying to tilt it. [Read more 🡒]

Jaguars Camp Battles Are Heating Up Faster Than Expected

Three practices into training camp, the Jaguars already have a few spots that are worth watching closely. The early work has brought the focus onto several position battles, with running back, right guard, tight end, defensive end rotation and linebacker all drawing attention as coaches sort through performance and experience on the fly.

It is still early enough for these competitions to shift once the preseason games arrive, but the first few sessions have offered enough clues to start shaping the conversation. For a roster trying to settle into camp with clarity, these are the kinds of jobs that can change quickly, and Jacksonville figures to keep leaning on every rep before any of them are truly decided. Jarrian Jones Is Forcing His Way Into A Bigger Jaguars Role

Jarrian Jones has been one of the more interesting developments in Jaguars camp, and his July 31 practice only added to that buzz. The cornerback flashed the kind of versatility Jacksonville has been looking for in its secondary, handling different drills with the same steady edge that has helped him stick around after a rough early stretch in the 2025 season.

Jones was benched early in the season, but he kept himself ready and waited for another chance to show he belonged in a bigger defensive role. His work has fit neatly with a Jacksonville mindset built on not giving an inch, and the way he has shown up throughout preseason suggests the Jaguars may have a harder time keeping him in a smaller lane much longer.
