Jacksonville Fire Rescue got an unexpected bonus on a recent call: Travis Hunter was already there.
According to a July 29 Facebook post from the agency, Engine 36 B-Shift responded last week and arrived to find Jacksonville Jaguars star and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter on scene, along with Sheriff T.K. Waters and members of JSO.
"Our crews never know what the next call will bring," the caption read. "Last week, Engine 36 B-Shift responded to a call and found Sheriff T.K. Waters, members of JSO, and Jaguars star Travis Hunter already on scene."
The department also shared a photo from the encounter showing Hunter grinning and wearing a police vest. After the situation was brought under control, the crew took a moment to greet Waters and Hunter and snap a picture.
"After the incident was under control, the crew had a chance to welcome Sheriff Waters and Travis to their territory and snap a quick photo."
Jacksonville Fire Rescue added a little humor to the post, writing: "Travis, let us know when you’re ready for your JFRD ride-along. We promise it’s just as hot as training camp,"
There was no additional information about what Hunter was doing at the scene or why he was wearing the vest.
Hunter has been a major figure around Jacksonville since the Jaguars made him the second-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. In June, he signed a four-year, $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract, with a $30.57 million signing bonus paid upfront, according to ESPN.
The two-way standout wears No. 12 for the Jaguars, the same number he used at Jackson State University and the University of Colorado. He plays both wide receiver and cornerback, and last season logged 324 snaps on offense and 162 on defense, according to ESPN. That worked out to 46.2 offensive plays, 23.1 defensive plays and 69.8 plays overall per game.
Hunter’s offseason has also included a major personal milestone. He and Leanna Hunter were married on May 24, 2025, in Tennessee, according to ESPN.
In an Instagram post, Leanna wrote: "On 02/26/2022 you first asked me to be your girlfriend. Now 3.5 years later, on 05/24/2025, I became your wife," Leanna Hunter wrote in an Instagram post.
"You make me the happiest woman on this planet and I am so excited to spend forever with you."
The couple met at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia, and dated through Hunter’s three-year college run at Jackson State and Colorado before getting engaged in February 2024, ESPN reported. They welcomed their son in August 2025.
Hunter also dealt with an injury late in the 2025 season. He was hurt Oct. 30, 2025, during practice on the defensive side of the ball ahead of the Jaguars’ Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The injury was non-contact. Jacksonville placed him on injured reserve Oct. 31 because of a right knee injury, and the team later said he had successful surgery to repair an isolated lateral collateral ligament (LCL) less than two weeks later.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper and Jaguars team physician Dr.
Kevin Kaplan in Dallas, Texas, according to the team.
As for his status going forward, Hunter is expected to be a limited participant in offseason on-field work before becoming a full participant by the time training camp begins in late July.
