Between now and training camp, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 90-man roster is getting a player-by-player look, and wide receiver Austin Trammell is one of the more interesting names in the mix.
Trammell wears No. 81 and enters this stretch as a 5-10, 185-pound receiver with four years of NFL experience. He played his college ball at Rice and is now 28 years old.
The Jaguars brought Trammell in as a free agent in June of 2024, and most of his time since then has been spent on the practice squad. He did crack the 53-man roster last season, though that stay was short-lived after the team released him to open a spot for Tim Patrick, whom Jacksonville had acquired in a trade.
Last season, Trammell saw action in six games on offense and also spent time on the 53-man roster. He finished with 3 catches on 9 targets for 46 yards. He also logged two kick return attempts and one punt return attempt.
The road back to the roster looks tougher now. The Jaguars added CJ Williams and Josh Cameron, and both rookies turned in strong offseason programs, which makes Trammell’s path far less straightforward than it was a year ago.
That matters because the receiver room already has a chunk of its spots spoken for. Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, and Parker Washington account for three of them, while Travis Hunter is also in the mix. Williams and Cameron make it five players who could very well form the core of the unit, leaving Trammell to fight for one of the few remaining openings.
If he’s going to force his way into the conversation, special teams may be his clearest lane. That’s where most of his value would come, and it may be the part of his game that decides whether he can stick on the 53-man roster.

Training camp is finally about to put the Jaguars offseason work under a brighter spotlight, with rookies and quarterbacks set to report July 25 before the rest of the roster follows a few days later. It is the kind of summer checkpoint that can sharpen the focus on a team with plenty of young names to watch, from rookie Albert Regis to Nate Boerkircher, while also giving the staff a first real chance to see how the offseason momentum carries into a more demanding setting.
There is also a little more uncertainty baked into this camp than usual, because some of the most intriguing pieces around the roster were limited in the spring.
