Coen Faces Familiar Challenge as Jaguars Assistants Draw League-Wide Interest
Success in the NFL often comes with a double-edged sword - win enough, and suddenly everyone wants a piece of what made you successful. That’s exactly the challenge facing Jaguars head coach Liam Coen right now, as both defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski are reportedly drawing interest from around the league.
Coen, who knows this process well from his own recent rise through the coaching ranks, didn’t shy away from the reality of the situation.
“It’s the frustrating part about success,” Coen said. “It’s why it’s always such a challenge to reload in this business and continue to win.”
He’s not wrong. In a league where continuity is rare and coaching turnover is the norm, keeping a talented staff together can be as tough as building a winning roster. And with the Jaguars making strides under Coen’s leadership, it’s no surprise that other teams are circling Campanile and Udinski as potential additions.
“I think both of those guys are going to get multiple opportunities,” Coen added. “It’s definitely something you want them to go through - I was fortunate enough to go through this process - and you don’t want to hold guys back. But, hey look, it’s my job to go find others too.”
That last line speaks volumes. Coen understands the business.
He’s supportive of his assistants’ growth, but he’s also preparing for the next step - identifying new voices who can step in and keep the Jaguars on an upward trajectory. It’s a balancing act every successful head coach eventually faces.
Texans Mum on Joe Mixon’s Future
In Houston, head coach DeMeco Ryans is keeping things close to the vest when it comes to running back Joe Mixon’s future with the team.
“I don’t have the answer right now,” Ryans said when asked about Mixon’s status.
That’s a wait-and-see approach, and it leaves the door wide open. Whether this signals a potential parting of ways or simply a matter of offseason evaluation remains to be seen, but it’s clear the Texans aren’t ready to make any commitments just yet.
Daboll in the Mix for Titans OC Job
Meanwhile, in Tennessee, the search for a new offensive coordinator under recently hired head coach Robert Saleh is heating up - and Brian Daboll’s name is firmly in the conversation.
Daboll, who has head coaching experience and a strong offensive pedigree, is reportedly being considered for the OC role on Saleh’s staff. At the same time, he’s still in the mix for other opportunities, including potential head coaching consideration in Buffalo.
It’s a fluid situation, but one thing is clear: Daboll remains a sought-after offensive mind, and whichever team lands him will be getting a coach with a proven ability to scheme and develop quarterbacks.
As coaching staffs continue to take shape across the league, expect more movement in the coming days - and more ripple effects for teams trying to build on recent success or turn the page toward a new era.
