Daniel Jones says he feels right on schedule as he works his way back into the Colts’ routine, while the Jaguars are still sorting out their offensive line and Jadeveon Clowney is reflecting on how different things feel in Houston now.
Jones has been under a close watch because of his health, but he said the early stages of camp have gone smoothly. “Felt good through the whole camp so far, and kind of - I knew I would,” Jones said, via Pro Football Talk.
“I think you try to push yourself in rehab and what you’re doing in preparation for camp, kind of knowing what to expect. So, I’ve felt really good, and I’ll continue to stay on the recovery part of it, make sure I’m available and out here every day.”
He also pointed to the details he focused on during rehab, especially the mechanics that matter in the Colts’ offense. “I think that was something I tried to focus on through the rehab process is pushing off that foot when I’m under center and making sure you’re not disrupting timing with running backs or with play-action game, or any of that stuff,” Jones continued. “So, that was definitely an important focus of the process, and something I’ll continue to work on.”
In Jacksonville, head coach Liam Coen said Anton Harrison has handled a position switch well. Harrison, who spent his first three seasons at right tackle, is now working on the left side because of injury issues.
“I think he’s done a nice job,” Coen said. “It’s part of what we’ve done, moving those guys around and seeing what sticks.
And if that ends up sticking, hopefully that’s a good thing for us. I think he’s put together five good practices so far that you’re pleased with seeing the consistency.
That’s something that we’re continuously challenging, not just Anton with, but that entire unit and group is just consistency, consistent effort, consistent technique, consistent finish. But I’ve been pleased with them just handling it pretty seamlessly so far.”
Clowney, meanwhile, looked back on his first run in Houston and the tension he felt with former Texans head coach Bill O’Brien. He said he tried to meet the expectations placed on him, but never fully got there.
“I take nothing personally,” Clowney said, via Pro Football Talk. “I don’t have hard feelings.
It was just O’Brien at the time, me and him bumped heads and I couldn’t really understand because I was an easy-going guy. I was like, ‘Whatever you want from me’ when I was 21 years old…The building changed a lot, in a good way.
A very, very good way. A lot easier, more relaxed in that building than it was when I first got there.
The coaching staff is different. It’s more fun.That’s because of DeMeco, the guy that’s running the show, he put a lot of great guys around him, coaches, and you can feel the energy.
And all the other guys can feel it, so I know great things are going to happen here, for me and the team.”
