Bills Suddenly Have A Shot At A Defensive Star Arizona Hates To Lose

As the trade deadline looms, the Arizona Cardinals grapple with potentially parting ways with stalwart safety Budda Baker, attracting interest from teams like the Bills and Jaguars eager to bolster their defenses.

The Arizona Cardinals may be staring at one of the toughest calls of their season as the NFL trade deadline approaches, and Budda Baker is right at the center of it.

Baker, who has spent his entire career in Arizona, has surfaced as a possible trade candidate, with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars among the teams linked to him. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Baker remains on his radar as a player to watch, while also noting how hard it would be for the Cardinals to part with a longtime fixture of the franchise. Still, Arizona’s losing has reportedly taken a toll on the veteran safety, which could create an opening for interested teams.

For Buffalo and Jacksonville, the appeal is obvious. Both clubs could use another established defensive difference-maker as they try to firm up their playoff push.

Baker would give either secondary a proven presence, along with experience, leadership and versatility. For the Cardinals, though, moving him would send a clear signal that the focus is shifting toward the future rather than the present.

Baker isn’t the only Arizona player drawing attention. Fowler also reported that Josh Sweat has been connected to the Dallas Cowboys, who may still be searching for help off the edge.

A deal there could get tricky, though, because Sweat’s contract situation appears to be a major hurdle. He is in the second year of a four-year, $76 million contract, and the report says he would prefer a new deal as part of any trade or some sort of financial adjustment to his current salary.

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett is another name worth tracking. Fowler reported that Brissett signed a reworked contract in August knowing a midseason trade was possible, and that a change at quarterback had been on the table because of Arizona’s transitional roster. Fowler also said Brissett would welcome a move and that broader conversations have already happened.

With the deadline nearing, the Cardinals have multiple decisions looming. Baker’s situation stands out as the most delicate one, given how deeply he’s tied to the organization, but Buffalo and Jacksonville have enough reason to at least find out whether Arizona would listen.

Greg Newsomes Rise After Jacksonville Just Took Another Painful Turn

The Giants have moved quickly to lock up Greg Newsome, agreeing to a three-year, $46 million extension that includes $32 million guaranteed after his strong start to the season. Newsome had only signed a one-year deal this past offseason, but his play across six games has made him a clear part of New Yorks defensive plans as the 2026 season has unfolded.

For Jacksonville, it is another reminder of how quickly a cornerback market can swing when a player finds the right fit and starts producing immediately. Newsomes new deal gives the Giants stability on the back end, while leaving the Jaguars to watch a familiar AFC rival secure one of its most important defensive pieces for the long term. Jaguars Could Lean On A Veteran Thursday For One Concerning Reason

The Jaguars short week is already adding pressure to a backfield that has become more important by the day. Bhayshul Tuten did not practice because of an ankle and foot injury ahead of Thursday Night Football against the Ravens, leaving Jacksonville to sort through its running back depth with little time to spare.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. was limited with a hand injury, but the veteran is the next man up if Tuten cannot go. Rodriguez has been efficient this season and has already carved out a meaningful role in recent games, which makes him a logical option for a heavier workload if Jacksonville needs steadiness against Baltimore. Jaguars Win Offered Hope For Brian Thomas Jr And A Bigger Worry

Brian Thomas Jr. gave the Jaguars a needed lift in the win over Indianapolis, hauling in a red-zone touchdown as Jacksonville found a way to steady itself in Week 8. It was the kind of moment that can matter for a young receiver, especially in a game where the Jaguars needed playmakers to answer after a stretch of uneven offense.

Liam Coen came away encouraged by Thomas and by the way the roster held together after season-ending injuries to Davon Hamilton, Eric Murray and Anton Harrison. The bigger question now is whether Jacksonvilles depth can keep producing when the margin for error gets thinner, because the next stretch will test both the teams leadership and its mental toughness.
